Then and Now

He drew back his axe, both hands gripping tight, and brought it down full force on the large log Infront of him. It split evenly, and he set the Axe aside, leaning it on the massive stump he used as a space to hold up the smaller bits. He picked up the two split chunks of wood and carried them a few steps away to toss them in the large open shack, now half full of wood being stored to dry for the winter. He took the moment to go get another beer, trying to add up the position of the sun in his mind. Straight over head, it was near noon then and he could switch to the harder stuff.

This was his usual schedule. Up at dawn to hunt, with a gun now as Azier hadn't spoken to him for more than a month. Back in a few hours to clean his kill and ready it to be cooked later, starting his day with beer. He'd work on his wood pile in the late morning, then walk to town and trade his furs and
