Chapter 40: Trust on the Edge

The weight of the amulet seemed to press down on my chest as I leaned back against the cold, damp rock. Nathanial and I sat in the small cave, our breaths coming in quick, shallow gasps. The silence between us was heavy, laden with unspoken fears and uncertainties. The glow of the amulet cast eerie shadows on the walls, making the cave feel even more confined.

Nathanial broke the silence first. "We can't stay here for long. They'll find us eventually."

I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. "We need a plan. Something to keep Gabriel off our trail and buy us enough time to figure out how to use the amulet."
