Chapter 54
Willow saw the scratch on her wrist that had droplets of blood trickling out of it. She closed her eyes before wincing in pain.
Although if there were any poetic justice, it would look exactly like the vampire howling in torment on the ground. The hooded man took a knife out of his coat and plunged it deep into the creature's heart. Willow heard the painful sounds of death and backed away.
The man slowly removed the knife from the vampire's heart and looked at her.
"Don't be afraid."
She pressed the cut with her hand to stop it from bleeding before slowly inching away from him.
"I am not going to hurt you," he said softly.
She looked at him skeptically.
"Who are you?"
The man took off his black hood and stepped into the yellow light. He appeared to be in his late 40s, buff and fit, with salt and pepper hair.
He extended his hand to help her up.
"I am Rick."

Five Months Later Willow walked down the empty street at night. The dark atmosphere and dimmed yellow light bulbs allowed very little vision ahead. She held her coat tightly with her gloved hands and wrapped her arms around herself as she quickened her pace, knowing that a vampire was following her. All that could be heard was the sound of her quick feet tapping against the concrete and the pounding of her heart. The vampire, too, quickened his pace. "I don't remember approving that plan of yours," he said, referring to her open declaration of killing the king. "Somebody has to do it," was the only explanation he was going to get from her. "I do not like to be blindsided in meetings, Willow," he reprimanded. "I know you have been to the palace and know its insides, but you might not be the best person for the job." Ava walked down the hallways of the palace while her dress and the long sleeves almost swept the floor. Her bodyguard followed closely behind. She walked inside her room and shut the door, walking towards the window and looking out at the city that now stretched beyond its previous boundaries. Willow stepped out of the shower and wore the same black clothes that had become like a uniform to her. After drying her hair, she tied it into a high ponytail and left her room. She walked down the dark hallway. Only dim lamps were allowed in the building and those lamps were placed in all the rooms. The only well-lit area was the basement. The rest of the building remained in the darkness at night. Members of the organization had to rely on moonlight or had to memorize the floor plan and count their steps. Willow and Luke stood in his apartment in front of the guest bedroom door in anticipation. She had performed the spell, however, given her lack of experience, she was nervous to open the door. "Do you want me to do it?" Luke asked. "No," she said firmly before twisting the knob. She pushed it open and they were greeted with the sight of a spare room that had junk stored in it.
