Naya'il - the angel of testing the devotion or faith
As I watched her embrace Hunter, I felt reality sink in. That girl was as beautiful as I was flawed. She looked perfectly matched for Hunter, the way I knew I would never be.
I turned away from them, gathered my tray and quickly dashed towards the next exit. Tears blinded my eyes. I tried to blink them back before I had the misfortune of running into either Chaise or Denise who would definitely ask what was going on.
For a moment there, I thought that Hunter was going to finally speak to me… that he finally remembered that I was his girlfriend once upon a time in his life when he was not as perfect as he is now.
I wiped the tears that rolled down my cheeks. Hunter may seem perfect now that he got his eyesight back, but damn! He was a much more beautiful person when he was blind and had nothing to offer me but the goodness of his heart.
I made it through the entire day wit
I didn’t know what was going on between Hunter and Tania. Whether they were still together or they were fighting. But whatever it was, I only knew that at this moment, it was her running after him, trying to calm him down, easing his pain and making him feel better… not me.I looked up at Chaise slowly. He was looking at the door after Tania. Then he turned to me. “I don’t understand how any girl can keep up with that moron.”I sighed. “Maybe he wasn’t always like that. Maybe he was just having a rough day.”Chaise actually laughed. “I think he was having a bad year!”“Well, Denise already told us what he went through. It’s not easy,” I said. “Trust me. I’ve been there. There are some wounds you don’t recover from.”Chaise reached for my hand across the table. “Whenever you feel like hell, or if your past comes back haunting you… don&
I shrieked. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, Hunter Vaughn?”He started carrying me towards the gift shop. “You need to get a new pair of slippers, otherwise, you will burn the soles of your feet. I’m taking you to the shop, whether you like it or not.”“Put me down!” I protested and started struggling in his arms.“Sssshhhh!” He tightened his grip on me. “Hush, Allison! I don’t want to drop you.”“Just put me down!”“I will. When we reach the shop—where the floor is cold.”Hopeless, I crossed my arms over my bare tummy and allowed him to carry me. The blood beneath my skin began to heat up and I’m sure that it wasn’t from the sun. I felt particularly self-conscious because of what I was wearing. I looked away from him, afraid that he might see the violent blush on my face.I thought the gift shop was near b
Uzziel – an angel whose name means "the strength of God."The following week, I worked with the local band that Denise hired to perform at the concert. They’re called ‘Dark Rose’. I was quite happy because Dominic, the guy I used to work with at Strung, was part of it.“I have missed you, girl!” he greeted me with a hug.“You too!” I hugged him back.I heard Chaise coughing behind me, forcing me to pull away from Dominic’s embrace.“Oh, Dom, this is Chaise. Chaise, this is Dominic. We worked together at Strung.”Chaise shook Dominic’s hand. I didn’t miss the warning look he gave him. Dominic merely raised a brow, giving Chaise a smirk.Boys! And I’m not even romantically interested with either of them.Dominic turned to me. “You should play with us.”“What?”“Good luck c
It was the night of the concert. I was nervous but what the heck! I came here for a battle, and I had every intention to win. I was tired of people at Leighton High thinking they were better than me. They were not! So they shouldn’t really look or think down on me.When I told Denise and Chaise that I agreed to play a song with the band, they were over the moon. They went out of their way to support me.Denise lent me a checkered skirt that ended a few inches above my knees and a pair of black boots that she’d never worn. She also got me a black long-sleeved cropped top that teased a peek of my flat tummy.Dominic brought his girlfriend Kaia, who happened to be a body painter. She took time to paint flowers and swirls on the side of my cheek where my scars were. She also braided my hair to reveal her handiwork on my face. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I was surprised. I couldn’t even tell that I had a scar on the skin she painted on.
Tania looked stressed. It seemed like she was shouting at him. Hunter was quietly leaning against a red car, holding the pendant of his necklace in one hand. His face was flushed and he looked like he was struggling to control his emotions. He didn’t even look like he was listening to Tania at all.He looked up and saw us walking past them. He caught my eye and held my stare. I couldn’t understand the emotion on his face as he looked into my eyes.Did he hear me sing? Does he recognize me at all?I had a feeling he knew who I was. Unfortunately, remembering me and admitting that he knew me were two totally different things.Hunter’s glance drifted off to the rose I was holding in my hand. I saw the bored expression on his face before he turned away.“Burger Inn?” Chaise asked as we all hopped in his jeep.“No! Half of the people who were in the concert will be there too! And I just w
Zadkiel – The Archangel of MercyChaise picked me up at nine in the morning. When I hopped into his car, I noticed that the white SUV was gone.I almost backed out of coming to this weekend getaway. I felt uncertain about how Denise’s cousins would react to me. One of his cousins already didn’t like me that much, he was trying his best to forget he even knew me at all. When we got to Denise’s house, she was already in the front garden waiting. She almost cursed at Chaise for being late. She went inside a black SUV and I could see there were people with her.Just then, a beautiful white Escalade went out of the garage and went ahead of us. It looked a lot like the car that was parked in front of my house last night. As soon as the Escalade was in motion, Denise drove behind it, signaling Chaise to start his engine and follow.“How long is this drive?” I asked Chaise.“Not
His voice was so familiarly gentle, I wanted to cry. He sounded like he did before he left.I couldn’t find my voice, so I nodded.“I got you,” he whispered so softly only the two of us heard that. He swam towards the ladder. He gently guided me until I could grip the handles securely. He slowly let me go so I could pull myself up the stairs.Chaise and Denise were standing at the top, waiting for me anxiously. Chaise pulled me up to the deck and Denise wrapped a towel around me. Hunter followed soon after.I took a couple of breaths to steady myself as I realized how scared I was. Chaise put an arm around my shoulder and gave me a gentle squeeze. “Are you okay?” he asked, and I managed to nod.Hunter walked past us with a furious look on his face. He went straight to Mica and pointed a finger at her.“Next time you push people into deep waters, make sure they know how to swim!” he said
Uriel – The archangel who takes you out of the darkness and into the divine truth. As soon as Hunter’s smirk faded from his face, we saw bright lights streak the skies, followed by the loud, booming sounds of thunder. A few seconds later, heaven let out its wrath and large drops of water soaked our skin.I turned on my heel and headed back to the house. I tried to run. Unfortunately, the rain made the dock floor slippery and my slippers were not slip-proof. I took one step too quick and lost my balance. I shrieked, knowing well enough that I would fall flat on my ass in three, two…But I felt arms wrap around me immediately, breaking my fall, catching me. I looked up above me and saw Hunter looking down at me with an amused expression on his face, his arms wrapped all around me.He pulled me up and before I could settle both my feet on the ground to secure my balance, I felt his arms under my legs and the
