Guilty.

Chapter Five.

Erika's POV.

"Don't ever tell me to meet with him again. I really hate seeing him." I dropped the files on David's table while I almost walked out of him.

"I feel like you two can still come back together. If Charles really feels bad for what he did years ago, He looked like someone who is persistent, and wouldn't give up on you." His words made me stopped walking with my hands on the door knob.

I got to my office, and I didn't meet my daughter there. I remembered I had told my personal assistant to make sure to keep her safe.

Where did she go again? Out of worry, I walked outside, and started searching for her. My greatest fear was her meeting Charles. I didn't want him to start suspecting a lot of things.

I didn't want him to start suspecting that Rose might be his daughter. Likewise, I met my personal assistant on my way to look for my daughter. "Where is Rose? Have you seen her? Do you have any idea of where she might be?" I was panicking at this point, and that was the only thing that could save me.

"No! I left her at your office. Isn't she there?" She questioned me, and I bit my lower lips in regret while I walked out of her sight, so I could get to look for my daughter as well.

I then saw her on the last floor, from the floor where I was. "Rose!" I shouted her name so loudly, to the extent that a lot of people diverted their gaze towards me. What was she doing with Charles? I hurriedly used the escalator; that was the fastest means at this point. I had to run on it till I got to where Rose was.

Furthermore, I grabbed her wrist, and then hid her behind my back. "I told you not to come near my daughter." I had to remind Charles. He was right at in front, and he didn't even flinch a little bit at seeing me. He was just there, and he looked at me with no expression on his face.

"What do you think the matter is? Why are you trying to hide Rose from me so badly? Do you have a secret that you are keeping from me?" He questioned me. Even the way I was acting raised his suspicions.

"Besides, the coffee your daughter made just tastes like yours exactly! I bet you must have taught her well." He complimented. What was I supposed to say? Should I thank him? Lol.

"I don't want my daughter to get too attached to you. I wonder what might get to happen once something like that happens. We would get to see later." I told him, and then I walked out of there.

I heaved a deep sigh of relief immediately. Furthermore, I saw that he had already left. Immediately I got to my office, and I held Rose's shoulder with my two hands.

"What did I tell you about strangers? You should avoid strangers. You don't know what they are up to." I held my daughter's arm, while I squatted down to her height.

"It seems like you two are really close. He isn't a bad guy, and he is excellent." She tried convincing me.

"It is not written on their forehead that they are good. You don't know his intentions, which is another reason why you need to avoid him. Yes! I knew him, and he was not a good person. That was the reason why I don't want him to be close with you." I lied to her.

Was that a lie? Wasn't she a bad person? The fact that he broke up with me on the day that we were supposed to get married made him a bad person.

"What was his offense?" She asked with her puppy eyes, which resembled those of her grandmother's. I ain't falling for that. I stood up from my squatting position.

"You ask a lot of questions, honey. You should just listen to what I told you." I walked to my Desk, and I didn't hear anything from her anymore, just like the way I wanted it to be

Later At Night.

I was on the balcony watching the stars, just like I would whenever I didn't feel like sleeping. I heard the sound of the car that stopped right in front of my house.

I came out of my house to check who it was. The car was really familiar.

"Wait? Is that not Charles's car?" I had to look at it again, and then I saw him getting down from the car, and that confirmed my thoughts.

"What are you doing here?" I questioned him after seeing how he looked. There were a few bruises on his face, and he looked a little bit drunk. He looked so pathetic, or maybe there was another word that I could get to use to describe him.

"I came here to tell you something important." He informed me. I looked at the time, and it was almost 12 a.m.

"What is so important, that you would have to come here this way? Looking like this?" I was curious to know what it was. I waited for him while he went through his phone, and then showed me the picture of David with some girls in the club.

That made me burst into laughter. Wait! I wasn't supposed to laugh. "What is funny? Can't you see it well?" He came closer to me while he almost shoved his phone into my eyes.

"What do you want me to do? Cry? Whine like a little baby? If you think you have done me a favor by showing me this, you must be really joking." I had to remind him.

"No! That is not the problem. Your boyfriend cheated on you, and I came here to let you know. At least you should be grateful." He told him, taking his phone back into his pocket.

"Okay! Thank you. You can go now." I wanted to walk out of him again, but not until I felt his hands on my shoulder. I felt the shock running through me again.

It had been a long time since my body reacted that way to someone's touch, and I wasn't on my ovulation period. He turned me back to him while he walked really close to me, so that there was barely any space in between us.

"I don't know what you must have gone through because of me. I had a reason for behaving that way toward you. A lot of reasons." He told me.

"Okay! I'm listening. What are the reasons? Why would you break up with a lady that you have been dating for the last two years? Why would you hurt her feelings? Give me a good reason." I questioned him. He stomped his foot on the ground while he tightened his grip on my shoulder.

It looked like he was finding it hard to tell me what the reason was. "The reason is because of what the doctor told me. I am also feeling guilty about something I did to you in the past." He spatted out.

"What is it exactly? What must the doctor have told you for you to break my heart that way? Guilty? What did you do? That it must be so bad for you to break up with me?"
