Woken

The sky became darker, indicating that evening was setting in. They were in Dilindu's backyard. The cool breeze blew at their skin and the fresh air from the vegetation enveloped the area. Sitting on two wooden chairs that faced the farm. They both sat in silence until Dilindu finally spoke.

"Nnedi told me she quit doing drugs with you".

"Oh really, that bitch is a cunning liar".

" How do you mean?".

"You know, ever since that incident transpired between you too, she had been planning all sorts of stunts to pull on you".

"I don't believe you". I said. Nnedi and I were already past that matter after we settled things. Why would she think that?.

" I heard from one of her friends that helped her to run some risky errands. He said she asked him to plant some coke on your mother's farmland as payback for taking Kamdi away from her. So she would implicate you and have both you and your family killed".

" What?, To that extent?". I asked in disbelief. It would have been better she did all this to me alone, but dragging my family along?. Rage began growing in me.

" Was it my fault he left her for me?. After all, she boldly told him to his face that she used him to get back at her lover. If she still wanted Kamdi, she should have stated earlier. Why would she do this to me?", I bursted out, sparking.

" Calm down Dili, I just decided to warn you as a friend. I don't want to loose you both, but as a precaution, don't let her into your house for now".

My mind was clouded as I couldn't think straight anymore. It was like she spoke but my ears suddenly went deaf. How could she?, Why?. I stood up and stormed out.

"Dili wait".

Too late for that, I jammed my gate, walking as fast as my skinny legs would take me. Thanks fully we lived close by. There were strange stares at me but I couldn't careless. Rage had taken control. That was it for Nnedi Imaha. On getting to her house, the light emanating from the kitchen eliminated the dark as I saw her cooking something.

' She's alone'. I walked to the front door.

" Bang bang bang!".

" Chill out, I'm already...", Already opening the door. Before she could finish her statement, I immediately barged in as my hand reached to her neck. I slammed her against the wall, strangling her. She had a fragile look, she wore a velvet strapped mini gown. She was light skinned, busty and slightly taller than me. She was 5 ft 7 while I was 5 ft 6. We actually looked very alike facially.

" You bitch, you thought you could get rid of me?. Planning to plant coke in our farm to implicate us?. I thought you were better than this. You said you were done with drugs".

"Waaaiitt.." she said, already chocking as she struggled with my strong hands until she almost lost consciousness. I quickly realized myself and withdrew.

" It's...it's not what.. what you..",she said after she fell on the floor coughing and gasping for air.

" What I think?. Tell me something I haven't heard before from your lying mouth".

"It was Adaline, her diary is in my...".

"Oh spare me that!. As for my family, we're not afraid of you so you can do whatever the hell you want". I said walking away. I left for home. After walking a few blocks, I remembered she was in possession of my blue heels that she borrowed for the graduation ceremony. Turning back, as I got closer and closer, I noticed a huge frame storming out of their gate. Backing me, he staggered away, I couldn't see clearly as the darkness of the night soon enveloped the area. On getting to the door, I saw a body lying helpless. As I got closer to see the view with the help of the light that emanated the dark. It was Nnedi in the pool of her own blood.

" Nnedi!", I screamed, rushing to the scene. Placing her head on my lap, her neck was slit.

"K...k...k"

" What?". I looked at a long trail oh blood by her left and saw the dagger, my blue heels were on her left hand. Still trying to shake her back to life. It was of no use, my best friend died in my own arms.

The only person that ever stood up for me while in school. She gave me purpose when I had none. She had left me for good. I cried uncontrollably, shouting for help.

" No no..".

Suddenly a huge hand was placed on my shoulder, shaking me while calling out.

" Dilindu, Dilindu Dili..!!".

I woke up, gasping for air. I looked around trying to make sure thing were okay. Avoiding the figure in front of me, I looked at my body as it was already drenched in sweat. Looking up, it was Kamdi.

" What happened Dilindu?. I got home a few minutes ago only to hear you screaming. I had to rush here, and saw you shaking furiously", he said. Now climbing on the bed to sit next to me. He gently placed my head on his shoulder.

" Nn...Nnedi", I said as I looked up to his face. Still shaking and already tearing up.

"Shhh, it's going to be alright okay?. Stop talking", he said gently, caressing my face as he gave me a reassuring smile that melted me within.

The last thing I remembered was him giving me a kiss on my forehead, while I drifted back to sleep.

************

Sonna took of with his bicycle to the bount camp. He wore a deep blue polo with brown woven pants. He stepped out of his bicycle, walking in. All manner of greetings were directed to him by his workers, but he only gave a faint smile in return. He had been like that since his sister passed away.

Entering his office, he saw other criminals cases that he had abandoned. They were scattered on his table. Sorting them out. A knock came.

  " Come in".

A female figure stepped in, she was robust and short, facially pretty as her puffy cheeks made way for her dimples. She had dark eyes and a round face. She wore the green uniform that stated she was a new recruit. Her name was Tonye Duru.

  " Any progress?".

" Sir, as of now, Adaline Muna is waiting in the interrogation room, claiming she's ready to speak".

" That sneaky foreigner is really getting on my nerves. I'll be there soon", he said. Arranging the files on his desk. He left his office, approaching the room.

" Sonna Imaha, what a pleasant surprise", Adaline said with a beaming smile on her face. She was pale skin, had blonde hair and a well defined pointed nose, with thin pink lips. She wore her orange shirt and khaki pants. Her cuffed hands were placed on the table as she was sitted.

" It's Sonna to you. Don't you dare call me by my full name". He said as he drifted the chair opposite her and sat. He always knew she had a liking for annoying people alot, as her sociopath disorder permitted. One of the reasons why he never related with her, even when she came visiting to see Nnedi.

" How're you coping?".

" We found your diary in the victim's room. Perhaps you might want to explain what you said about wishing my sister were dead", he said looking at her deep blue eyes as he ignored her question.

" So the bitch took my dairy", she scoffed, leaning back and folding her arms.

" For crying out loud, will you stop beating around the bush and tell me what you meant by that statement?". He said, hitting the table with his hands as he angrily stood up in frustration. It's been over a week since they held her in as a suspect.

' She laughed'.

" What's funny?", He asked as he placed his two hands on his waist, already frustrated.

" You had better start talking before I take you back to cell number nine". Tonye finally spoke as she stood leaning at the entrance. Adaline immediately frowned, remembering what she faced back there.

" Tonye just..".

" If you want answers about my diary, Kamdi is the right person to ask", Adaline finally spoke out.

" You had better be telling me the truth. Tonye, take her back to base, he said walking towards the door.

" Okay boss".

Entering his office, he sat down on his seat, trying to gain his posture when another knock came.

" What is it this time?".

Manduco opened the door, still standing at the entrance with his black uniform.

" A man is here to see you".

" Who is that?". He rarely had a visit from anyone except for the cases he had.

" His name is Tobere".

Sonna paused for a moment, he didn't know what to do.

" Tell him to come in".

Priestly Umege
