Halle sucked in a deep breath when the sound of her knuckles hitting the door registered in her ears.

It was louder than she intended and she subconsciously took a step back and stared at the door warily. She heard slowly approaching footsteps.

She kept her hands at her sides and took in a deep breath.

She tried to relax her tense shoulders as the door handle pushed down and then opened.

He was right in front of her the next second, he looked up, and it took him a few seconds to realize that she was lower than his eye level.
