CHAPTER 5

Valerie immediately went downstairs; she had to have breakfast before Depson picked her up, and one more thing that made Valerie nervous was that her was afraid he would be late because the rules said his boss hated people who were not on time.

The bell rang, and Valerie, who had just opened the fridge, immediately grabbed the whole milk she had been drinking and opened the door to welcome Depson.

"Are you finished, miss?"

Valerie nodded when she saw that Depson was all dressed up in a black suit.

"I'm ready, sir." Valerie was still confused about what to call Depson because, honestly, her looked older than her, and just calling him by his name was not too rude.

"Just call me Depson Lady; I don't want to look too old, and you are more honorable than me." Valerie only smiled slightly, as she still did not understand the meaning of Depson's last words. Valerie felt that she looked more special, being picked up by Depson to go to work.

"I have been assigned by the master to pick up Miss and take her to work." Depson opened the back door for Valerie, and all Valerie did was obey without arguing.

During the trip, Valerie just kept her fingers crossed, something her often did when her felt anxious or nervous. There was no music from the headset that usually accompanied her journey. It was just her and her racing heart as the car entered the elite parking lot for employees who owned cars.

"Miss, we have arrived." Without Valerie realizing that Depson had opened the door for her, she felt bad.

"I'm sorry, Depson." Valerie sat down slightly and saluted Depson.

Valerie just followed Depson's footsteps that led her to the main lobby of the skyscraper, which was so luxurious with its rotating glass doors, as she entered the company. Valerie was also surprised by the company's luxurious and technologically advanced architecture. It could be said that this company was bigger and more luxurious than the place where he used to work in Chicago.

Depson pressed the elevator button, and the elevator doors with the initials AD opened. Depson let Valerie's body enter first, before himself.

But there was something strange about this elevator looking empty while the one they had just passed was crowded with employees. Valerie's eyes stared at the elevator button that reached the 20th floor, and Depson pressed the 40th floor.

"You must be wondering why this elevator looks empty, right?" said Depson, like a psychic who could read Valerie's mind in an instant.

"Does my face look very legible?" Valerie spoke in her heart before she opened her mouth to answer Depson.

"How do you know? Yes, I kept feeling strange from the beginning." Valerie looked up at the elevator doors that had just reached the 36rd floor; there were still four floors to go.

"Because this elevator is only for CEOs." Depson's answer was enough to make Valerie's legs feel weak until she had to hold onto the elevator wall.

There was no conversation between her and Depson anymore; just now, it already made Valerie feel shocked, and if she had asked further, she could have had a heart attack.

The door to the room was made of brown wood with the AD CEO's initials carved on it, which made it look different and quite scary for Valerie.

The door was knocked on by Depson, and the door opened on its own after a few minutes.

"What should I do?" Valerie continued to question herself in her heart, still hiding behind Depson's body. Even though her footsteps were now inside that masculine and luxurious room, the tiles currently under Valerie's feet were made of black marble.

"Mrs. Valerie is already here." Depson looked at Arthur, who had been staring at the body of the woman hiding behind Depson. Without Depson even saying it, Arthur knew that he had been watching Valerie's arrival.

"Is this the way people want to work with me?" The stern and heavy voice of the man, whom Valerie still didn't know, had scared Valerie so much that she accidentally pulled Depson's coat.

"Calm down, lady; everything will be fine." Depson shifted his body so that Valerie's face, which was originally sitting, now dared to look at who was in front of her.

How surprised she was when her eyes met the blue eyes of someone who was still vivid in Valerie's memory!

"You!" Valerie unintentionally called the owner of the company by his name.

"Do you know me? Why are you so presumptuous as to call me?" Arthur chased Depson away with his eyes still focused on the woman's steady eyes without blinking. Arthur stood in front of Valerie, only a few centimeters away from her body.

"I'm asking you if you know me." Arthur's eyes stared intently at Valerie.

Until Valerie realized that what he was doing was wrong, even though her knew this man in front of her, Valerie still did not deserve to call the powerful man you.

"I apologize, sir, for my impudence; I didn't know you before." Valerie sat respectfully, not daring to look at the man she remembered as Arthur.

"So you have forgotten me?" Arthur put her head close to Valerie's ear and whispered, making Valerie's hair stand on end.

"I'm sorry." Valerie faded, her footsteps slightly away from the man in the gray suit. Valerie just continued to sit because her was too afraid to look into those mysterious blue eyes.

"Raise your head." Valerie, look me in the eye when you speak; I won't forgive you for that." Arthur's hands were on both of Valerie's shoulders, whether he got a push from where Valerie dared to look back at Arthur's face in front of her or their distance was very close, like when they were both in Chicago.

"You will be my secretary from today on," Arthur said before removing her hands from both of Valerie's shoulders. He knew Valerie was scared right now.

"Your desk is over there." Arthur, who had been sitting at her desk chair, pointed to the desk that her had placed in his room.

Valerie, who was still silent at first, finally came to her senses and moved obediently to walk towards the desk not far from Arthur's desk.

"Oh my, does that mean I'll be working in the same room as him?" Valerie just tried to turn on the monitor in front of her with nervousness in her heart.
