We walked towards the pack entrance, and Ethan remained silent. It was strange; he didn't try to approach me or ask how I was. The absence of his words made me suspicious, especially considering the last time we saw each other when he vowed to come and get me. The place emanated an uncomfortable chill; people gathered around the grave, and Ethan's father's name was engraved on the tombstone.

Gasping, I finally broke the tense silence. "My condolences for your father. I'm so sorry," I murmured nervously.

Ethan responded with a simple "thank you," without even lifting his eyes to meet mine. It seemed as if my comment hadn't made the slightest difference at that moment.
