I want a divorce!

“tell me where my kids are and come with me I’ll deal with this when we get home” Gerald pointed out pulling her hands towards the poolside outside the main hall of the new opening hotel, he was aiming to pull her towards his car when Emerald yanked her hands away from his grip.

He stared at her wide eyed, not believing she had actually glared at him and also yanked her hands away from his grip.

“How dare you” his bold masculine voice echoed into her sensitive ears and without giving it a second thought, she raised her voice at him.

“I want a divorce!”

Gerald looked taken aback by her sudden outburst. She had never for once in her life raised her voice at him and he was beginning to wonder what had suddenly given her the courage.

“Huh?” He managed to say.

Emerald shifted her gaze from the ground, fixating it on him. “Gerald Latino, I want a divorce”

“You cheating.. lying bastard. What’s giving you the impetus to talk back to me, huh? What are you doing here at this hotel opening party, anyway? Are you getting hooked up with Jeremy?” Gerald said through clenched teeth, reaching out to hold her hand again, this time much tighter.

Cheat? Emerald scoffed at the words he used to describe her. He had once caught the gardener in her room with her and since then she had been labeled a cheat and a liar; he had locked her up for days without letting her see the daylight and he had gone ahead to fire all the workers in the house.

She couldn’t tag it as jealousy. He was just being mean and cruel.

Hooked up? Just because she had met him at a clubhouse and was naïve enough to get pregnant for him didn’t mean she was a hooker.

“I really wonder how I fell for you!” She found the words gushing out of her mouth. Gerald Let go of her grip and with blood-shot eyes he said,.

“Fell for me..? Emerald, I don’t care if we get divorced but if we do, I want both kids,” and with that he walked away, leaving her alone by the poolside.

Emerald tried blinking back, the tears welling up and keeping her gaze steady as she watched him walk away. He was so toxic and cruel.

She had never wanted someone so mean and cold-hearted to father her kids. She had thought she could change him.

she knew his threat was never empty and if he wanted the kids, he really did mean it and everything Gerald Latino wants he gets.

She heard footsteps from behind and when she turned around to see who it was, her gaze fell on Jeremy, running in her direction.

She tried to wipe away the traces of her tears with the back of her palm, but she was too late. He had seen it all.

“Emmy, I’m sorry I couldn’t get through the crowd on time.. what did he do to you? Why are you crying?” He asked, looking around for Gerald as he held Emerald by her shoulders.

“I... I don’t know how he.. he.. found... I was here.. I’m.. I’m..” she stuttered, trying to form words, something she tends to do after an encounter like this with Gerald.

Jeremy patted her down, directing her towards the rooftop. They both sat down and although Emerald was scared of height, she just couldn’t care less.

“What did he say to you?” Jeremy asked, after talking off his suit jacket and placing it around her shoulders.

“He threatened to take the kids away... the both... I know.. I know... Gerald too well. He is capable of doing anything he sets out to do.” Emerald let Jeremy know.

Jeremy sighed, reaching out to hold her hands, and with a soothing voice, he said,

“Emmy, remember when I confessed my feelings to you and you turned me down because you wanted someone who could protect you and someone more experienced?” Jeremy paused as he saw Emerald's soft gaze meeting his.

“I know I was immature and probably not your type but I’ve really changed and trust me if I say I can protect you from your husband... because he wouldn’t dare lay a finger on the kids on my watch...I’m not the little Jeremy you knew back then..my name now brings shivers to people spines but trust me I’ll never hurt you,” Jeremy assured her.

Emerald stared up at Jeremy.... ‘should I believe him? He has indeed changed a lot, but do I trust him and rest on his open shoulders?’
