The Escape

Emerald bent over zipping a big red box in haste, she rushed over to the two confused Twins grabbing their hands and leading them out of the room.

“Mummy, why are we packing?” Robert asked clutching to his green puffy dinosaur.

Emerald stared down at the perplexed five-year-old before bending down and pulling both kids into her arms, her slender body over them like a shield.

“We are leaving to see your grandparents..” she paused, blinking back tears before adding, “we’ll be staying for quite a long time” she explained, muffling Robert's hair a little before standing straight trying to smile and act collectedly cool.

“What about daddy? Isn’t he ‘comwing’ with us?” Roberta's tiny squeaky voice asked making Emerald stifle a bit before forcing out a reply “your daddy won’t” she tried to walk past Roberta and pretend to be engrossed with packing up their stuffs when Roberta question came up.

“Why?” Roberta asked making Emerald flicker her long lashes, for a five-year-old kid she was too quick and witty always wanting to know more but Emerald couldn’t bring herself to explain further so she just pulled both kids out of the mansion towards her car, she tucked them in their seats then goes back to get the remaining luggage.

Emerald breathed out as she hoped desperately that running away from her cruel, ruthless husband would be a right decision. She prayed she won’t end up regretting messing with her husband Gerald.

The thought of him alone sent shivers down her spine.

She pulled a black box getting ready to leave when her hands mistakenly jabbed at a framed picture, making it fall to the ground. She bent over to pick the picture up but paused when her gaze falls on Gerald in their wedding picture.

His black suit corresponded with his black, dark ocean deep eyes. One would think he applied a black mascara, his sharp jawline and chiseled figure would have made any lady fall only if he would smile and not look so scary.

He was huge and tall and beside him stood Emerald in her white flowing gown looking like a smily five-year-old girl on the contrary Gerald just kept a plain emotion he didn’t even bother smiling in the picture he was not so different from the wrestler undertaker maybe more handsome and a bit taller.

“What was I thinking?” She whispered to herself, shaking her head and leaving the picture back on the floor before pulling the loaded box out of the master’s bedroom, the room she and Gerald only shared once, she proceeded towards the car.

She got into the drivers sit turning on the car ignition, still trying to control her trembling hands and forcing out a smile so the children tucked in the back seat won’t notice the nervousness in her eyes.

“Look, it’s daddy!” Roberta voiced out with a glint of joy in her eyes.

Melissa paused, her eyes growing wider as she pivoted her head towards the black Lamborghini driving into the garage at a high-speed limit.

Why is he back so early? He doesn’t return from work by this time? Did he, by any chance, find out?

Melissa almost swore she felt her heart sinking into her stomach, she was already feeling nausea and her skin had turned deadly pale, almost plain white, her hands were shaking really badly that she looked epileptic.

From the rear mirrors, she could see Gerald's black eyes shooting lasers.

“I want to go say goodbye to daddy before heading to see ‘gwandpa’ and ‘gwandma’ “ Roberta voiced out trying to unbuckle her seat belt as her blue eyes glinted with excitement.

Melissa was still trying to control her shaky hands with something that tends to happen whenever Gerald was around.
