Chapter sixteen

Katherine's POV

I take up a fighting stance but deep down I'm so scared out of my mind. My body is frozen solid and I'm sure if one of the masked figures approached me, I wouldn't be able to untangle my stiff limbs long enough for me to move.

My thighs tremble and I have to blink rapidly behind my mask so I can keep my gaze focused on them.

At first, none of the men moved, and then the one that caused a diversion looked up to the other one that blew the powder.

It seems he's the leader.

He gives an imperceptible nod, and they creep closer.

Fear runs through my veins and I'm stuck between the fight or flight response when the leader does something that shocks me.

"Katherine, we don't want to hurt you." His gruff and scratchy voice echoed loudly in the small space.

How the hell does he know my name??!

I shift back a bit but they notice and creep closer. I study his build and height and mentally run it through the guards at Ethan's home or anyone but I seem to be drawing a blank.
