CHAPTER FIVE

Rosalind

I couldn’t believe the look on James' face as he barely paid attention to my words. Was that how unimportant I was? Was slandering me behind his back one of the things he did for fun?

“I want a divorce and I want it now.”

His eyes snapped to mine as if just listening to me and his brows tightened. “No.”

My face clouded with disgust as I glared at him. “What do you mean no? I want a divorce and I want it as soon as possible and you cannot stop me.”

He ran a hand through his hair, a move that used to get me excited but just annoyed me as every part of him. “If you don't do this, Rosalind, I will do whatever you want, and answer every request.”

Marina gasped beside him. “James-“ she started, but I cut her off.

“Since you are offering, I have a request.” I spoke calmly, gaining his attention.

He gave me his complete attention and the room tensed as they both waited to say what I was going to say.

My eyes met with Marina’s briefly and I could see the irritation in them.

“I want you to send Marina away.”

Marina gasped, her nostrils glaring in anger. “What? That’s absurd! You are such a vicious person!” She spat at me but James held her back, his gaze still trained on me.

I refused to back down from his stare and waited to hear what he had to say to my request. He sighed, breaking our gaze. “I’m sorry Rosalind.” He met my gaze again.

“That’s impossible, but if you make another request, I promise to do it as soon as possible.”

My teeth gritted against each other. He was going to pick Marina over me. He didn’t even think twice about it.

“Then expect my divorce contract.”

And with that, I turned around and left, shutting away the outside world as I stormed out of the room and the hospital.

Half expecting him to follow me outside to convince me otherwise, I looked back and he wasn’t there. A pained chuckle left my lips as i angrily wiped my tears. Did I really expect James to do that?

I thought maybe if I meant something at all, he would chase after me…

I shook my head in pain as I retrieved my phone from my bag. I needed a ride and I couldn’t return to that house, not when Marina and James would be there.

The phone rang only once as my brother, Chris’ voice came through the speakers. “Hello sis, what’s up?”

Taking a shaky sigh, I tried to make my voice seem as normal as I could. “Hey Chris, I’m outside the Central hospital, the one closest to the town mall and I need a ride.”

“Oh the one you took me to two years ago, the night of my game?”

I nodded despite him not being able to see me. “Yes, that one.” I cleared my throat.

“Okay ill be on my way then.” He replied and i sighed again.

He paused, and I held my breath, hoping he wouldn’t sense it, but he’s my brother. He knew me more than anyone else.

“Are you crying? No, that’s not supposed to be a question. You are crying, Rosalind.”

At that moment, a sob left my lips, and I could hear him curse at the other side.

I covered my mouth with my hand to stop another sob from escaping while he asked softly.

“What happened, Rosa? Please talk to me.”

“It’s nothing, Chris, I'm just going to need a good divorce lawyer.”

The silence from the other line had me holding my breath and I swallowed hard as his voice came from the other line.

“What the hell?” He roared into the phone. “What did that asshole do to you? I’m going to kill that over pampered son of a bitch!” He angrily yelled into the phone.

Pulling the phone slightly away, I sniffed and wiped my tears before clearing my throat. “It's really nothing important , Chris. Marina woke up, that's all. So would you be here soon?”

The silence reigned again and I pleaded with the heavens to let him drop the topic, but they weren’t that nice.

“Wait, he’s going to replace you because that woman woke up? What sort of sick asshole is that? Oh when I see him I’m going to teach him a lesson about taking advantage of people!”

I held the phone to my ear, gritting my teeth together to push back the pain. Chris couldn’t do anything to hurt James. The body guards would have shot him before he could.

A shaky sigh left my lips. “Can you just come and pick me up please? We can talk about this later.”

He sighed heavily, and I could see how angry he was that I was hurt by James.

“Okay, Rosa bear. I'll be there faster than you can think.”

Muttering a soft thank you and hanging up the call, I rubbed my arms because of the cold. I didn't wait to get a coat before coming here, and now I was freezing. Not wanting to stand still in front of the hospital and close to the two people I hated the most in the world, I walked slowly along the road on the sidewalk.

Letting out a sigh, I still tried to wrap my head around the fact that I was getting divorced on my birthday. My birthday, my so-called husband couldn't be bothered to remember. My eyes stung with unshed tears, but I was done with feeling sorry for myself so I blinked them back, but all that didnt matter as right in front of me, an accident happened.

Two cars crashed into each other with a force that sent me reeling back. A gasp left my throat as I saw the cars crash into each other and with that sort of collision, the drivers may not make it if someone didn't help.

Remembering I was a doctor, I pushed myself and ran towards the cars, just as some people also rushed towards them.

"Stand back, everyone. I'm a certified doctor and I can't do anything if you are in the way."

I waved my identification card in the way and they stepped back after helping pull the first driver out.

He was still alive but unconscious with a gash on his forehead and a bleeding thigh with a shard of glass in it. He was injured and I performed a quick first aid on him while another person screamed for an ambulance.

The person was the one helping the other driver, and his voice seemed familiar but I pushed that aside, focusing on the patient.

The patient let out a groan as I tightened the strip of cloth above his bleeding thigh to stop his bleeding.

"It's going to be fine." I whispered and the paramedics rushed in to take the drivers for immediate care.

Letting out a sigh as the crowd dissipated, I turned to take a good look at the other rescuer.

The man turned at the same time and as our eyes met, a gasp left our lips.

"It's you?!"
