CHAPTER TWO

Heaving a sigh, I rushed out of the house, but they already drove off, not waiting for me. I walked to the road and hailed a taxi, which then took me to the hospital.

I was allowed easy access to her room since I used to intern there before I got married, and I rushed to her room.

Opening the door, I was met with a sight I didn't expect.

Marina, the woman who I've seen nothing but her in an endless sleep, was awake and sitted on the bed while James held her hand as they smiled and talked.

She's finally awake. That's great, right? James would finally be happy for my contribution and he would be grateful to me, but what about the other part?

I would become invisible, and he would be lost in her eyes, a pretty shade of green I was just seeing. She looked more beautiful now that she wasn't half dead.

The door opened behind me and the doctor stepped in, and that was when they realised I was here as I stood awkwardly behind the doctor.

“Marina” The doctor turned to her and gave a wide smile,. “It's a great thing you were taken care of properly. If not for that, your recovery wouldn't have been this quick. Now let's check those vitals.”

He got busy with Marina and my eyes met with James’ across the room. He looked calmer, happier than I've ever seen him, and that hurt a little.

Pushing my conflicted emotions behind, I stepped closer to him. “Hey James."

He peeled his eyes from Marina and met mine, and my breath caught in my throat at the warmth in his eyes

It was almost as if James had come out of a coma too, his eyes shone with love and warmth for Marina, and my heart broke some more. He really wasn't going to remember I existed in a few minutes.

"Yes, Rosalind?"

I took in a deep breath and met his gaze. "I'm really sorry about my mistake today."

He studied me silently, and I decided to go on. "I made a mistake, it could have cost you, but I promise I didn't mean any harm. "

He folded his arms across his chest and pinned me with that look where I had no idea if he was mad or not, and I fidgeted under his stare.

"I promise to help her recover fully, in any way she needs."

My heart thumped in my ears as i waitex for a response from him. He continued staring at me before he nodded, and slowly a half smile crept onto his lips, a sight I had never seen in my life.

"Thank you, Rosalind."

The sound of him thanking me had me floating with euphoria. A blush made its way to my cheeks before I could stop it but thankfully the doctor spoke again, and I felt better with his attention off me.

"Mr James, can we have a chat? I need to speak to you about the recovery plan for Marina here."

James nodded, and stood to his full height. "Of course."

He stepped closer to Marina, and placed a kiss on her cheek, and I looked away quickly. I should be used to this by now, he used to do it all the time.

He barely gave me a look as he stepped out, with the doctor, leaving me alone with Marina, who's eyes followed me eerily as I moved across the room.

She kept quiet as I did my work, and I trued to ignore her presence and work in silence. I wasn't used to seeing her awake so it unnerved me.

But she broke the silence.

"You."

I instantly turned towards her, my brows furrowed in confusion. "Me?"

She raised a brow. "Of course you. There's no other person in the room, is there?"

I opened my mouth and began to talk, but thought against it. What was I going to say either way?

"Is there something I can help with?" I asked, getting over my initial embarrassment and switching to professional mode.

"Well I need to use the bathroom."

"No miss Marina, you can use the bed. It's okay."

She gave me a look of annoyance. "What? Do you look like I'm some sort of animal? Or a child?"

"What?" I breathed, feeling trapped at the confrontation. "No you seem to be getting it all wrong, people do it all-

"Stop talking." She gritted and I kept my mouth shut, my cheeks flaming with embarrassment.

She huffed, muttered something under her breath before pinning me with her piercing eyes. "Get me out of this bed, and fast "

I nodded, and did as I was told. I wrapped my hand around her waist and helped her to her feet, which was a challenge, since she hasn't gotten on her feet in a while.

She gripped onto me, holding on for dear life as I helped her off the bed, but the minute I didn't support her, reaching to open the door, she crumbled down and almost hit her head on the edge of the coffee table, but I saved her in time, causing my head to hit the edge of the coffee table instead.

The pain struck through my brain, but a loud cry escaped Marina's lips as if she was the one who was hurt.

James wouldn't like this.

"Oh my God." I exclaimed, rushing towards her to help her on her feet.

"You fool!" She cried, and I gulped nervously, feeling guilty for almost hurting her.

"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have left you- I just wanted to open the door-"

"You are just making everything worse!" In the middle of her wailing, the door flung open and an angry Jamss walked in.

"What is happening here?" He rushed to Marina's side and helped her to her feet.

Before I could reply, Marina turned to him, with tears that seemed to miraculously appear in her eyes.

"She almost hurt me. She made me fall because of her stupid incompetence!"

I gasped, "I didn't mean to-" but a glare from James shut me up.

"I don't want her to be my maid again. She's incompetent, and useless, and also doesn't respect authority. "

Anger filled me with her statement. A maid?

"I'm not a maid, miss. I'm sorry to say, but you are seriously mistaken. I am James's legally married wife."

I raised my hand up to her and showed her the ring, and she gasped sadly, her eyes meeting James's.

"You married someone else?"

He shook his head, and placed the hand that wasn't supporting her softly on her cheek and stared into her eyes with so much love I almost doubled over in pain.

"This marriage with her doesn't mean anything, my love. I only married her so she can take good care of you. She's nothing but a maid to me."

A pained gasp left my lips as soon as those words left his, and they stung. The man I loved, the man I've done everything for, didn't see me as anything, but a maid?

My eyes stung with tears and jealousy filled me as I watched him kiss her forehead softly.

"Well, I don't need her anymore." Marina folded her arms over her chest as her eyes met mine.

"What?" I whispered, not believing my ears.

She turned to James, a sad look in her eyes, and I knew it was to manipulate him to do her bidding.

"Divorce her. I don't want her as my maid anymore. "
