I agreed to implement the recommendations made by the board members. I consented to take the lower position in exchange for the opportunity to learn what I required to know, but of course, with Jayden's assistance.

The realization that Jayden and I were the only people still present in the conference room sent a chill down my spine. He was standing there accumulating some documents and stuffing them into the brown leather briefcase that he carried with him. Even though he had his back turned to me, I could still make out the serious expression on his face.

I was too afraid to approach him, so I just stood there and waited for him to turn to face me. ‘‘Miss Matthews…’’ suddenly he called out, causing me to jump and bite my bottom lip as I gazed up at him.

I found myself missing the way he called me his princess… or his baby...

‘‘Yeah…?’’ I exhaled a breath of relief before clearing my throat.

‘‘You look different now. Not the same Kelly that I knew…’’ He leaned back again
