ARIA
.
I was unable to speak, struggling to find the right words to say. It was then I realized that I was standing in front of the Alpha King. Fear gripped me as I realized what could happen to me if he figured out who I was. I was about to be caught and I couldn’t let that happen.
Before he could realize what was going on, I turned to my heels. I didn’t stop until he held me by my wrist. “Turn around.” I obeyed and did as he said, before he started to inspect me from head to toe. “You are Ryan’s slave, aren’t you?” I nodded in the affirmative, afraid to look into his eyes.
I never really looked at him for more than thirty seconds. I guess that’s why I never noticed his strong masculine features which made me feel a certain kind of way.
“What are you doing out here then? Isn’t there a party?” He paused for a moment and sighed. “You were trying to run away.”
Before I could even think of what I was about to do, I went on my knees and started to weep. It was the only way I could free myself. “Please d…don’t tell him. H…h…he will kill me just like he killed my entire family. He has made my life a living hell, please!” I said and continued to cry waterfalls. It seemed that I couldn’t stop crying as I remembered the moment as I saw my father get killed while begging the Alpha King.
“He tried to practically sell me to a strange man. I couldn’t allow him to take advantage of me, please.” I said as I had already started to calm down.
“What’s your name?” He asked me. It took a moment for me to process what he said. “What’s your name?” He said as though I was wasting his precious time.
“My..my name is Aria.” I replied while cleaning my tears.
“Get up and stop weeping.” I did as he said while still not trying to cry. “Weeping can’t change anything. Besides, only weak people cry. Strong people find the way forward.”
“Everyone cries when they are so hurt. I’m broken by my traumatic experiences.” I said instantly regretting it. He could get angry and take me back to Ryan.
I was about to apologize when he spoke. “I know. But crying would only make you feel worse.” He said and looked into my eyes. It was then I felt it. I felt the rush of emotions surge through my body. I think he felt it too, because his eyes softened immediately he met mine.
“So, if you had left this place now. Where would you go?”
This Alpha King managed to make me speechless. I never really thought of where I would go after I’d run away.
“That’s what I thought.” He said in a low tone that sent chills to my spine. “Come on, let’s go.” He grabbed my hands and made me follow him to the last place I wanted to be, the palace. I wanted to cry again but I couldn’t help but notice how I felt when he held my hand. I wanted to scream and make a fuss so he won’t take me back to that place. However, I knew better, I didn’t want to make matters worse.
We got to the palace when almost everyone at the party had already gone home. Ryan was seen talking to another king. As soon as he laid his eyes on me, he frowned, walking over to us after he dismissed the king.
“Nicely done Aria. Nicely done.” He said in a sarcastic tone. “You really thought you could run away, huh? You can’t run away, I promised you I would make you pay for what your father did to me!” He hollered and pulled me to him before squeezing my ears. “What were you thinking hurting such a nice man? The apple truly doesn’t grow too far from its tree. You tried to betray me and kill him, just like your father did?”
“Hey, you’re hurting her. She’s a lady and she looks quite sick.”
Ryan glared at him before letting go of my ears and pushing me, making me fall to the ground. “And who do you think you are? This is my kingdom. This is my slave and I will do whatever I want to do with her. I appreciate you bringing her back. You can leave.”
“No, I won’t.” He said, making me confused. “The moment I set my eyes on her, I knew that I wasn’t going to leave this place without her.”
“I ask again, who do you think you are? She is a nobody but I am not selling my slave to you. I have to teach her a great lesson.” Ryan said and kicked me all of a sudden, making me grunt in pain.
“Stop it! She’s my mate!” The Alpha King shouted, making everyone in the room speechless.
“No! It can’t be!” Ryan yelled. I was sure it was so strange to Ryan, considering the relationship we once shared. But as ridiculous as it sounded, he was my mate, we both felt it so much that it was too hard to ignore it. Even though Ryan was cruel to me, I didn’t want to leave with some other strange man. I believed that the devil I knew was better than the one I didn’t. He was acting like he cares right now, but as soon as we get to his home, he could kill me with his bare hands and no one would even care. I had no family to call my own, I had become a mere slave.
“Look, I know that we don’t like each other. We never did and will probably never will. This might be the only thing we might actually agree on and that’s fine by me. I just want Aria to come with me, that’s all. She’s my mate. I knew it from the second I saw her.”
“I know she’s very pretty.” Ryan smirked. “You don’t need to lie to have your way with her.”
“No, no. That’s not what I want. Look, I’m doing it for your own good. She’s a nobody, right? So, taking her away wouldn’t affect you one bit.” The Alpha King seemed so determined to get Ryan to agree with him. But I knew Ryan very well, or at least to a certain extent, he was stubborn. Ryan continued to look at him straight in the eyes, thinking of whether he should let me go.
“If you let her go, I’ll owe you one. Come on, the moon goddess has obviously brought us together. Why would you want to stop it?”
“Fine.” Ryan said looking irritated. “I’ll let her go, but you owe me one. She makes my blood boil anyways. I can’t stand her.” Ryan said and left. When I realized what had just happened, I sighed in worry, accepting my fate as the Alpha King helped me up.
However, I still had my revenge plan at the back of my mind. Nothing was going to change that.
ARIA.The silence in the carriage had been so uncomfortable that I was avoiding eye contact with him like the plague. Sometimes during the journey, I would feel his eyes on me as though he wanted to start a conversation but he didn’t know how to. It was strange albeit exciting and scary that I was going somewhere with a handsome Alpha King of whose name I didn’t even know. His kingdom was quite close to Ryan’s so we got there that same day. That made me wonder if it seemed like they were foes. I knew when Ryan didn’t like someone. He would give them the stink eye and scowl at them as well. The crazy part is that wasn’t the look he gave me. It was the look of hatred and disgust which made me wonder how he changed so much. This Ryan wasn’t the Ryan I had fallen in love with. I think I always knew he was like that, just not to me. Ryan was always rude and wicked to slaves. I never really did anything about it and that’s why the other slaves hated me as well when I got into their shoes.
ARIA.It felt like hours and I had already started to panic, but I couldn’t even scream for help. I guess this is how one feels when death is knocking at the door, I couldn’t do anything about it. “I’m so sorry sir. She just slumped all of a sudden.” I heard Portia say as I slowly opened my eyes. The first person I saw was the Alpha King, his eyebrows were creased and he looked scared. Did he care about my well-being? “W-what happened?” I managed to ask.“You fainted. Are you okay? Portia answered my question with a question.“I’m fine. I think I hit my head on something.”“I’ll get a healer to come and check you.” The Alpha King said and proceeded to walk away.“No…uh.” I interrupted thinking of his name. Come to think of it, I didn’t actually know his name! “What’s your name?”“You didn’t know my name all this time?” He had an amused smile on his face that made me feel so embarrassed. “My name is King Aiden. Call me Aiden.” I wondered why we hadn’t spoken yet if I was actually h
ARIA.I didn’t want to go downstairs but I just really had to get some water. As I walked closer and closer, I figured out that Aiden was conversing with the person. I didn’t want to have to talk to any new person. So, I carefully walked to the kitchen. It was so weird that I hadn’t been to the kitchen since I got there. I wouldn’t have had to because I had Portia. She was nowhere to be found and I actually wanted to go around the house. The kitchen was big, but not that big compared to Ryan’s. I didn’t know why I kept comparing Ryan to Aiden in every thing, whether big or small. I actually forgot sometimes that Aiden is a King of a much smaller kingdom. I walked over to the wooden counter and picked an apple, I groaned as I took a bite. I couldn’t find any food but I hadn’t been eating well lately, and the apple tasted so nice. I also managed to find bread in one of the compartments and ate that as well, before drinking water. When I was sure I felt okay, I left the kitchen, making
ARIA.That was the kindest apology I had ever received in my life. Aiden really knew how to go all out for someone. The pie was delicious too, I had doubts that he was telling the truth about making it. I ate very fast, as though I had not eaten a proper meal for days, which is actually true. It was then I started to feel better and have more energy. What I wasn’t so sure of was the horse riding invitation. Technically, I didn’t lie. Just because I find something interesting doesn’t mean I can do it. He should have not believed me. He is aware that women don’t engage in such activities. To society, we should be interested in cooking and child birth. That’s why I’ve always been different. I loved to read and my eyes sparkled whenever I saw people riding horses. This was one of the things that made me miss my mom. If she had been here, she would have told me horse riding was for men. It wasn’t her fault, it was what the society made us believe.Ryan was the biggest supporter of such i
ARIA’S POV.Who ever thought that walking down a memory lane would hurt as much as this? I've always had a memory lane to walk through, but they were all filled with beautiful experiences.Until Ryan gave me just one excruciatingly painful experience. Having my whole tribe killed, and then killing my father right before my eyes. While all these sad thoughts went through my head at intervals, Aiden had occupied most of my time with fun activities which reduced my sad thoughts. And we had gotten closer during those fun times. I never thought that we would get close in the space of this little time, but he was way different from other men, and Kings and that was probably what caught my eyes and made me feel a little at home. I looked at myself in the mirror, and smiled at how beautiful I looked. This evening, I was meant to meet with Aiden to go on a stroll with him. It excited me so much because I would get to feel the evening breeze caress my skin, and stare at the beautiful nature
ARIA'S POV.My eyes fluttered in shock, but as I opened them back, they were back to normal. It was as if nothing strange ever happened. Then I shut my eyes tight, and tried to wield whatever was in me, but I didn't feel any different, neither did anything weird happen after that.I let out a deep sigh as I dropped down on the bed, and shut my eyes, feeling the weight of my sleepiness dawn on me.~I opened my eyes and I found myself on a vast land. The air was chilly, and the moon was bright with it's silver light illuminating the land.Apart from the moon's light, there were the fireflies light, and the cricket sounds didn't make me feel completely alone.“Where am I?” I muttered out, scanning around me.“Ariaaa.” I heard a voice call out my name softly, but what was weird was that there were chills at my neck, making it feel like the person was right behind me.I immediately turned to look back, but there was no one around me. Suddenly, I met myself on a throne which was placed o
ALPHA KING AIDEN'S POV.There was a bit awkwardness in the air for a while, especially because Aria kept acting like Jamaison wasn't with me.“Try to understand, Jamaison. Hopefully, she'll learn to trust you the way I do.” I patted him as we walked out to the field.“I understand, Alpha.” He uttered.“Alright, so what do you need to tell me?” I asked as we halted in the middle of the field.“Actually, Alpha king Rutherford is meant to be here. I met him when I went out to check a few things.”“He told you he'll be here?” “Yes, Alpha. And it seemed like it was a bit urgent.”I dropped my head down with both my hands on my waist, hoping that things were fine. Then I raised my head up and turned to Jamaison.“Bring me a note. I need to tell Aria to wait for me at Open Mouths.” I instructed him, and he bowed a little and left. Then I looked towards the far end of the field, waiting for King Rutherford to get here. If he sounded urgent and had to come here himself, then it meant that it
ARIA'S POV.“I'm right here, Aria.” I heard his voice from a distance and turned to look in that direction. As I turned to look at him, I also glanced at the direction in which the soothsayer walked away, but she was nowhere to be found. She had walked out of sight before Aoden came in sight. I waited until Aiden got close to me with a smile on his face.“Are you missing me already?” Aiden teased, with a grin.I smiled awkwardly and clutched my fingers unto his clothes. “There's something I haven't told you.” I said to him, and his smile faded away, replaced by a look of seriousness. “What's that, Aria?” He asked, out of concern and then I glanced at the maid who was patiently waiting for us.Aiden understood what I meant, so he told her to move a bit far from where we were. Then we sat.Aiden held my hand, and focused his attention on me, but I wasn't feeling the same enthusiasm I was feeling to tell him, earlier on.So, I decided to reveal a little, instead. “Talk to me, Aria.
