SERENA’S POV

As I slowly opened my eyes, the bright lights above made me squint. My head was pounding and I turned my head to see my mother sitting beside me, her face filled with worry.

"Darling, you're awake!" she exclaimed, gently taking my hand in hers. "How are you feeling?"

I gave a weak smile as I tried to sit up a little. "Fine," I croaked. My throat was parched.

Just then, another face appeared—Mr. Lodge.His usual cheerful expression was dampened with concern. "We were so worried about you, Serena," he said softly.

I looked between them, confused. "What happened? Where am I?"

My mother exchanged a glance with Mr. Lodge. "You're in the hospital, sweetheart. Do you remember anything?"

My memory rushed back to me. "There was a fire...at my old place. I must have passed out."

My mother nodded slowly. "Kaden found you and pulled you out before the whole place went up in flames. If it wasn't for him, I dread to think..." Her voice trailed off and she squeezed my hand tighter.
