12. Elise's Warning

Elysia's Pov.

"Five, four, three, two, and one."

I took a deep breath after counting my fingers, gulping my saliva down my throat so hard that I felt the muscles of my bottleneck stiff.

The hell! What just happened?

My cheeks felt numb for a moment as I tried to reminisce about what had just happened. Why did my father-in-law feel the need to hit me?

I kept asking myself if I would be able to come up with an answer when the only way was to question the man who had just struck my face with his old solid hands.

Just then, my mother-in-law interrupted. Looking at her, I could tell she was pleased I got hit. She tried to hide it, but I could see the little smirk playing on her lips, but she likes to feign affection for me.

I couldn't help but scoff, and instantly she glared at me but never yelled.

She never yells when Damon is there.

"Then speak to your son and leave Elysia alone. Damon, walk your father inside. You boys can do your business while I take care of Elysia."

She dismissed
