Chapter 4

Am quite thrilled to be staring at everything.” Adam said with a low chuckle, i turned back to my friends ignoring the pair of eyes on me.

“Hmm- well it’s not all the time you see things like this.” I joked laughing lightly.

We moved to our table and while Summer told me about her day at work, i felt those same eyes following me until we turned and found our space, I was happy with the location, it was away from public eyes especially if anyone was coming in and at the same time it was by the window which overlooked the city.

“I bet Hazel will be upset that she can’t be here.” Adam said, now both Adam and Hazel were related. Cousins to be exact and the bunch acted like they were brothers and sisters.

“Yeah, she’s pretty upset.” I answered knowing how Hazel whined on the phone for not being around. She had travelled for a project and wasn’t going to be back until next week.

“Welcome to Kings, what wine of choice can we interest you with?” The waiter asked, he had soft blonde hair which was styled neatly to the side, he had sharp forest green eyes and his face was clean that he looked like a runway model.

“Uh-” I turned to Summer who was already giving me the eyes. I rolled my eyes and turned to Adam who helped make the order, i trusted Adam’s judgement on wine.

“So do you think the waiter is attractive?” Summer fired away after the waiter left us alone. “Summer-” I started but she interupted me.

“What? Don’t lie, he’s pretty much hot, i mean the way he stared at you too-”

“Geez, he only stared at me because he wanted to know what i wanted to drink. You’re clearly overthinking things.” I said while turning my attention to the glass. The lights from the buildings around decorated the darkness.

“Don’t be so modest Dani, i mean did you take a look at yourself in the mirror?” she said and i frowned.

“Whats wrong with me?”

“Can you see? You don’t even know how beautiful you look and that dress, you look like someone i would totally hit on.” She said and i tried to hide my blush. Summer was bold about a lot of things-

there was nothing she held back on and she made sure that she made me know that i was worth everything.

“She’s right.” Adam agreed while putting his phone away.

Our wine came and so did our food, we talked while we ate. Adam telling us of how much he got to do now he had achieved his goals for the quarter, Summer on the other hand talked about how her dad wanted her to come spend a month with him down in europe.

“That doesnt sound so bad love, you should consider-” Adam said and Summer glared at him making me laugh.

“I mean it would make your father think i’m not trying to steal you away.” Adam added.

“But you are-” She stated and reached for hands on the table and kissed the back of her palms.

“I know, your father knows that and he wants you for the month while i have you for the rest of my life.” He said and i tried to hold back on my smile, these two.

“Adam-” Summer murmured as she tried not to tear up, Summer loved the baby girl treatment and Adam was a romantic, both a match made in heaven.

My phone buzzed in my purse and my heart skipped a bit, Mum promised me that she wasn’t going to call yet my phone buzzed.

“Uhm- i think i have to take this.” But neither Adam nor Summer paid attention to me as i slipped away. I managed to find an empty hallway and answered the call.

“Mum? What is it? Is everything okay?” I asked all at once.

“Mummy- ah!! Gra- grany- granny caught!! Ah-” Avalon’s loud squeal echoed through the speakers and i relaxed. They were probably playing hide and seek.

“Ava-” I said and noticed that someone else had walked into the hallway with a phone pressed to their ears.

“I don’t just care, just get it done. Do whatever you have to, i don’t need excuses!” The man hissed into the phone while he raked his hands through his hair. With his back to me, he was oblivious to the fact that i was there.

“He should’ve know that when he tried to mess with a king.” The man said fiercly, something about his voice was enchanting and familiar.

“Mummy are you still there?” Avalon’s voice rang through and the man turned to me. His eyes locked with mine and narrowed when he realized that i had been there for a while.

“Uh- yeah hon, i am here.” I answered with my eyes still on the man in front of me. His hazel eyes kept me locked in place unable to move. He covered the steps between us and towered above me.

“I’ll call you back Marcus.” He said and peeled his hands away from his ears and stared back at me. I swallowed.

“Dani, are you still there?” It was my mum this time but her words sizzled away as the man continued to look at me with those Hazel eyes.

“Yes, she is. She is just too stunned to speak now.” He said loudly and his voice floated into the phone.

“Is that a man?!!” My mother shrieked and i blinked, once and then twice. Oh My God!!!

“Uhm- I- I,” I scowled at the man. “What the hell do you think you're doing?!” I whisper yelled but he didn't seem fazed that he just interrupted my call, like it was the most natural thing to do.

“Danielle Tan, answer me right now!” My mother voice passed through the phone,

“Yes- I am- here, just stop yelling okay?” I said and took a step backwards but the man in front of me followed my move.

“Will you stop it?!” I removed my phone from my ears and placed it on my chest hoping my mother doesn't hear my banter.

“Why?”

“Oh my God! It's rude, listening in on a strangers conversation!” I said, but it only made him snort.

“You didn't seem to have a problem with it earlier.” He stated and I rolled my eyes.

“It was a coincidence okay? I didn't mean to, besides I was here first, you can’t blame me.” I hissed back at him.

The man in front of me studied me, and I did the same thing too, he was dressed in crisp black suit and a black shirt dress underneath. His light brown hair were disheveled and his face under the light highlighted his high cheek bones.

There was a noise behind us, people where coming and it made my eyes widened.

“I need to-” he pulled at my hands, dragging me to a near by door which he hastily opened and closed. I swallowed when my back was against the doors and she hovered over me with his hand pressed above my head.

“What-”

“Just stay damn quiet.” he muttered and I obeyed.

The footsteps from outside got nearer and then it stopped.

“Seems he went out for a smoke,” a man said from outside. From where I stood I watched the man in front of me tense. His jaws were locked in a tight grip and his brows narrowed.

“Yes, I get it. He's a pain in the ass, and we need to get rid of him, for good this time.” My eyes widened when I realized what was happening.

“If he is going to be stubborn, then we will make sure to remind him that he is nothing.”
