Chapter One

"Dr. Gwyneth, are you finished for the day? You're not on duty tonight?" the friendly nurse asked.

Gwyneth's mood was extremely cheerful. "I'm not on duty tonight. I finished early, so I want to treat myself to something. Everyone, enjoy your work, I'm heading out now."

"Well... her single life is really admirable. I wish I could also dedicate time to myself like she does. Life isn't just about running around with kids..." the nurse next to her sighed.

Another male nurse standing nearby chuckled, "I don't think she's as comfortable as you think. I heard her family is pressuring her to get married; they've even chosen a suitor for her. Can you believe there are still arranged marriages in this day and age?"

Gwyneth was twenty-seven years old, but she had never thought about marriage. She just wanted to live a happy and content single life, enjoying everything on her own terms. However, that was her own thinking. Her parents and relatives thought differently; they believed she was of marriageable age and urgently needed to get married.

They had already chosen a prospective spouse for her, but Gwyneth had no intention of marrying according to her parent's wishes and arrangements. She didn't want her life to be bound by marriage and a man. She found her parents' thinking outdated and conservative, but regardless, they were still her parents, so no matter how much they pressured her, she couldn't confront them harshly.

Rarely getting off work early, Gwyneth decided to go to the supermarket near her home to buy beer and some snacks. Tonight, she would enjoy beer and watch a movie.

"Is it you again?" The speaker was a female employee working there. The two met frequently because Gwyneth often bought ready-to-eat food there.

Gwyneth seemed to have become a regular customer there; the female employee spoke lengthily, "I don't mean anything by it, but you're a doctor, and yet you don't eat healthily? This supermarket's main income comes from you, Gwyneth."

Gwyneth paid and joked, "If that's the case, you should thank me. I don't know how to cook, and I don't have time to cook. Being a doctor is just my profession; it doesn't mean I live a healthy life."

Gwyneth left the supermarket leisurely. Although she worked at a major private hospital in the city, she lived in the outskirts, mainly because the cost of living in this area was low.

As night fell, the population here was sparse, so the streets were deserted and gloomy. However, Gwyneth had grown accustomed to this and felt comfortable this way – no noise, no pollution from vehicle emissions.

"Tonight... what movie should I watch? Horror, romance, or action, hmm, let me think..."

"Um... ummmm... ha..." Gwyneth was contemplating when suddenly she heard moans of pain coming from a small alley just as she passed by.

Frowning slightly, thinking she might have misheard, she turned back to stand in front of the small alley, trying to listen carefully to the sounds coming from inside. Indeed, there were moans of pain. The alley was very dark, she couldn't see anything inside clearly, but the moans made her unable to leave. She slowly walked into the alley, starting to feel uneasy.

In front of her lay a grown man curled up on the cold ground, his body bruised and with several relatively large wounds. Gwyneth knelt down to observe closer and saw the bleeding wounds; he was lying in a pool of blood. Such a sight would make even someone accustomed to gruesome scenes like Gwyneth feel nauseated.

"Hey, are you okay... sir... can you hear me? You're still breathing, but it's very weak. I don't know what happened to you." Gwyneth furrowed her brows; in her many years as a doctor, she had never encountered such a severely injured patient.

His breath was weak, his body covered in life-threatening wounds and blood flowing incessantly. He might groan in pain, but this man was completely unconscious, falling into a state of delirium.

Gwyneth tried not to breathe deeply because the smell of blood was too strong, making her very uncomfortable. Now, even if she took him to the hospital, it would take almost an hour, not to mention if any driver dared to take them. Out of options, Gwyneth could only try to carry the blood-soaked man and take him home.

"Hang in there... I'll help you survive."

After removing all of the man's clothes, Gwyneth was even more horrified; she covered her mouth, unable to believe her eyes. There wasn't a spot on the man's robust body without wounds, and those wounds were not only large but also aimed at vital points.

Gwyneth dared not think much. She hastily grabbed medical tools to assist him with bandages and staunch the bleeding. She meticulously stitched each wound on his body, each needle making Gwyneth hold her breath, sweat dripping from her forehead even though the weather wasn't hot.

It took Gwyneth over two hours to stitch up all the wounds on his body, and she couldn't even count the number of stitches on this man's body.

"Finally done... I wonder what else you have been through... it's terrifying," Gwyneth felt as though she had just struggled with death itself to save this man's life. She sat exhausted, leaning against the wall, breathing heavily.

Only now could Gwyneth observe the strange man in front of her more carefully. Because she was in such a hurry, she had cut off all his clothes. Before her face was a completely naked man, and Gwyneth involuntarily looked down and immediately turned away in embarrassment.

Although she had bandaged and treated his wounds, the fever still couldn't immediately subside. In his delirium, the man continued to groan.

Gwyneth felt it was inappropriate for the patient to lie in the living room like this, so she once again moved him to her bedroom, to lie on her bed.

After administering medicine and making him drink, Gwyneth finally felt relieved, but she couldn't leave him naked, so she rummaged through her wardrobe, but none of her clothes fit this tall man.

After a search, Gwyneth took one of her large-sized dresses for him to wear. While dressing him, Gwyneth felt both afraid and embarrassed, afraid of touching the wounds on his body and embarrassed because it was the first time she had seen an adult man completely naked like this.

"When you wake up, don't be curious why you're wearing a dress. I don't have any clothes that fit your body. So, use my dress for now. Don't worry, this dress is very loose, so it won't touch the newly stitched wounds," Gwyneth explained, but he was still unconscious, so she could only talk to herself.

Tonight was supposed to be a cheerful time for her after a long day of work, but now she faced this situation.

Gwyneth adjusted his hair, revealing the man's face, which astonished her.

"Wow... really handsome, looks so young..." Gwyneth couldn't help but praise, as she saw the man in his twenties. The features on his face were clear and perfect, not like a vagrant.

"But why is he injured to this extent? Who exactly is this man?" Gwyneth couldn't help but wonder, about bringing a strange man home when she knew nothing about him. Saving people is a doctor's duty, but she was still very concerned about the man's background; if he was dangerous, it would be even more complicated.

Most of the wounds on his body were life-threatening and bleeding heavily. If Gwyneth hadn't stopped the bleeding, he would have died from blood loss. But what she cared about more was how this man could still survive with such terrible wounds; he was truly not an ordinary person.

To make it easier to take care of the man, Gwyneth lay on the sofa right in the bedroom. Perhaps because she was too tired from recent work and went through the stress of trying to save this man she fell into a deep sleep as soon as she lay down.

Early in the morning, Gwyneth felt her neck being squeezed tightly, making it difficult to breathe. She opened her eyes in horror to see the man from last night.

"AAA... I... I'm the one who saved you... let me go quickly... I'm almost unable to breathe... cough..." Gwyneth sat up in horror, coughing uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face. She thought she was about to die; this man was too terrifying. Instead of repaying the person who saved him, he wanted to kill her.

The man in the loose dress stood before her, his sharp eyes looking at Gwyneth. "Did you save me? Did you help me with my wounds?" Indeed, when he woke up, he noticed that the bandaged wounds felt much better, although the pain from the wounds was still there.

As soon as he woke up and found himself in a strange room, he became extremely cautious, wanting to kill Gwyneth immediately when he saw her.

Gwyneth immediately stood up, distancing herself from him, her whole body trembling as she scrutinized the man from head to toe. "If I hadn't saved you, you might have died in that alley. Not only do you not thank me, but you also grab my neck. Is that how you repay kindness?" she couldn't hide her anger as she spoke aloud.

The man didn't care about what she said, his eyes were still cold and sharp as before, surveying the room and then staring at Gwyneth, seeing that there was nothing dangerous, he relaxed.

Gwyneth stood up straight and sighed, "I helped you stitch up your wounds last night. I won't ask you about the origin of those wounds." But I have to go to work now, you should go to the hospital.”

"The hospital?" he murmured softly.

Thinking he might still be half-asleep, Gwyneth added, "Yes, the hospital, for a health check-up. Although I've treated your wounds, it's for your safety. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"I can't go to the hospital. Thank you for saving me, but if I suspect any ill intentions from you, I won't be merciful," he said sharply, his gaze making Gwyneth shiver. The dominance emanating from this man was overwhelming.

Gwyneth wanted to quickly get him out of her house before she left for work; she couldn't keep someone like him around. "I don't even know who you are, so please just leave."

With that said, Gwyneth ignored him in the room while she prepared breakfast to get ready for work. This man had disrupted her peaceful evening, and his threats upon awakening left her speechless.

Gwyneth didn't know what he had gone through, but it seemed to be very dangerous things, which is why he showed such extreme caution towards the person who saved him. Gwyneth was thinking while making breakfast. As soon as she returned to the dining table, she saw the man sitting casually at the table.

He stared at the food in Gwyneth's hand, noticing there was only one portion. He then casually asked, "Where's my food?"

"What? Hey, young man, I advise you to go to the hospital right now instead of sitting here having breakfast. Helping you this far has been more than enough," Gwyneth sighed as she sat across from him.
