Chapter 4

Seeing that Angelina agreed to this so easily not only just relieved Officer Lexi as Angelina proved to be co-operating well with them. But it also confirmed that she in fact had no hand in the killings of her parents. This gave Officer Lexi a new found determination to help this young girl. Wanting to start the procedure soon to clear Angelina’s name she said, “ That’s great, we will have to take you to the police station though as we will have to record your answers.”

Angelina hesitated a bit as Natasha was asleep and she did not want to leave her alone. She was scared that she will loose Natasha like she lost her parents. She wanted Natasha with her to make sure that she is safe. Officer Lexi saw her uncertainty and asked “What’s wrong? Why are you hesitating?” Angelina saw this as a opportunity to keep Natasha with her replied, “Its just that I left Mum and Dad to go to college but found them dead when I returned, I don’t want the same to happen with Natasha. She is my little sister and after all this I feel this need to keep her in my eye sight.”

Officer Lexi understood how Angelina felt and told her “We can take her with us if you want. She can stay with one of the officers there while we are getting your statements”

Angelina agreed to this immediately as Natasha would be with her. Andrew said, “I will also come with you as I don’t want to leave Angelina alone right now. Also if I am there than Natasha can stay with me while you do whatever you have to do” Angelina never felt more grateful towards Andrew before this. He understood that right now she needed hi support more than anything and he was ready to give it to her without even asking. Andrew understood that if he was there looking after Natasha than Angelina wouldnt have to worry about her as she knew Andrew would never hurt Natasha.

Officer Lexi smiled at both the young adults in front of her. She knew that both of them loved each other allot and cared for each other. She only hoped that fate would be good on them and help them get together.

They reached the police station in about 40 minutes. Officer Lexi directed Andrew in the waiting are and told him to stay there with Natasha. She lead Angelina inside a dimly lit room. There was a table in the centre of the room with two chairs on its opposite sides. Some recording devices were kept on the table along with a file, laptop and a pen drive. Officer Lexi went and sat on one chair signaling Angelina to do the same.

Officer Lexi started with the questions required to ask, “Did you have any hands in the murder of Nicole and Peter Winter?” Angelina immediately but confidently replied, “Of course not. I would never ever kill my own parents.”

“Did you have any fight with them yesterday?” Was Officer Lexi’s next question. Angelina took a minute to reply as she felt guilty of the fight that happened the day before. “Yes I had a fight with them. It was a simple matter but I got really upset and ended up not talking to them. I even ignored them in the morning when I left for college. And now I feel so guilty about it. I was gonna apologize to them when I returned but now I will never be able to do it” Just thinking about it made her tear up.

"Then who do think can do this?" asked the Officer Lexi. At first Angelina looked surprised because of such question but still replied "I don't know. I don't remember anyone who would want to kill them. They never made enemies. So I have no idea of who can do this"

Then Officer Lexi thought of a question that was bugging her since Angelina’s Uncle filed this case. "Why is your maternal family suspecting you? Shouldn’t they be supportive of you at this moment? Then why are they trying to put the blame of your parents death on you?" was Officer Lexi’s question.

"That’s the question I am asking myself since you told me Uncle Sam filed a case against me. The only explanation I can come up with is the argument which was going on since a few weeks. And that’s why they feel I did this. I am not sure but this is the only thing I can assume.” Answered Angelina.

Officer Lexi looked in some thought before asking, “If you don’t mind can you tell me what was the argument going on from few weeks which you said? Also why did you have a fight with them last night?”

“Its fine. I actually wanted to go for a trekking camp this summer but my parents were against it so we were having an argument sort of thing from a few weeks and my family came to know about this so…. And last night also we were fighting on this only I really wanted to go to this camp as I wanted to experience trekking. But Mom and Dad, mainly Mom was not comfortable with me being gone for 3 weeks and that also in a forest with no friends as none of my friends wanted to accompany me. So we were fighting and one topic lead to another and our fight increased about how I was completely irresponsible” Angelina answered honestly.

Officer Lexi had talked with most of the people gathered and had informed the family members of the Winter’s about the murders but she was unable to contact any one from the Winter family. She thought about asking it to Angelina "When I tried calling someone from the Winter family I was not able to contact them.  Are you not in contact with them or something?"When officer Lexi asked this question, Angelina became silent as she also did not know why her father’s siblings who were so close with them were not here. But she still answered what she knew."We have contact with my dad's brother and sister but I don't know why they are not here. I thought that it must be because they were not informed."

“We can see about this later don’t worry my officers are trying to contact them” Assured Officer Lexi.
