Chapter TWO

  FIFTEEN YEARS LATER.

It had been fifteen years since the massacre.

Fifteen years since the members of the Wall Street pack lost the ability to detect their mates.

Fifteen years since their females all lost their fertility.

The population has remained stagnant due to that. The old were dying, even some youths and children that suffered from grave illnesses were dying too, but no one was reproducing.

Every member was scared because they knew their entire pack was going to go extinct someday if nothing was done about it, but then, no one had any idea what they could do to remedy the situation.

For the past years, they had focused on rebuilding their pack and they had done a good job at it. Even though they could no longer go back to bring the most powerful and prosperous pack in the world like before, they weren't doing bad at all for themselves.

They had engaged in agriculture and multiple forms of trade that had paid off and at the moment, their economy was stable and if not all, but almost everyone was doing well for themselves.

No matter how much wealth they had acquired throughout the years, they were all still scared that one-day, Alpha D'argan would come back and repeat history.

"Achilles" Diana, the last and only daughter of the late Alpha Rowan called as she walked into her brother's bedroom.

Diana was twenty years old and she was a werewolf who had magical powers just like her late grandmother. She first manifested her witch powers when she turned ten years old and her elder brother's decided to keep it a secret from the others because they were scared that if Alpha D'argan found out, he would feel threatened and come after them again.

The last thing Achilles wanted was for his people to get massacred again. He would do everything in his power to prevent that.

"Diana" He called back in a husky voice as he rose up from his bed and strode over to his sister. When he was close, he gently pulled her into his arms and placed a warm brotherly kiss on her forehead.

She was the most loved person in his life.

"How has your day been going?" He asked as he released her and took a step backwards as he shoved both hands in his trouser pockets.

"The way it should. Magical" She said with a light chuckle that caused his brother to smile.

  Something he rarely did.

"That's nice to hear. So, what brings you here?"

"Well…" She slurred as she nervously rubbed her palms together and pursed her lips. She knew what she was about to say would not sound pleasant to him at all, but she had to say it, because it was an instruction she got from the ghost of their grandmother.

"Well?..." Achilles repeated and she looked up at him. The nervousness in her eyes was inevitable and that made Achilles crease his brows.

His sister was never the type to feel nervous around him.

  "Diana, is anything the matter?"

"No, everything is alright" She replied as she sucked in a great amount of breath and inched closer to him. She took both his palms in his and kissed them.

The bewildered expression on Achilles' face only worsened.

"Achilles, you are twenty five years old, don't you think it was about time you got married? I mean, you are the Alpha and you need a Luna to assist you rule this pack of ours" She explained and immediately the last sentence escaped her lips , she bit them hard, but didn't look away from her brother's face.

He seriously needed to get married.

"Diana, where is this coming from?"

"Grandma, she says you have to get married soon. She keeps talking about something big being on the way."

"So you mean, grandma asked you to tell to get married soon"

"Yeah" she replied nodding her head and Achilles began pacing about in the bedroom.

"Diana, right now, the only thing I am concerned about is how to rule my subjects and of course break this curse that she placed on us. How am I supposed to get married when I have lost the ability to detect my mate? I can't just marry any girl out there and make her Luna of this pack?"

"Achilles, if grandmother has asked you to do this, then I strongly believe she has a plan, she knows why she is saying so."

"The only woman I want you to get married to, the only woman I want to spend the rest of my life with is my mate and as it is now, I don’t have the ability to detect her. I'm not going to marry some random girl. Tell grandma I can't do this. I'm sorry" He stated firmly and Diana took a furious akimbo posture and casted him a furious look.

"Seriously?" She asked firmly and Achilles stopped pacing about and looked at her. The moment his eyes locked with hers, his heart softened and he let out a heavy sigh.

It was as if she had used a spell on him.

"Diana, I'm not trying to be selfish or unreasonable. I very well know that grandma has a reason for asking me to get married, but it feels so bizarre, especially as I will have to marry someone who is not my mate. The most annoying thing is that she won't even be able to procreate. It's hard for me" He cried and Diana's high shoulders sagged as she walked towards him.

"I understand you. I would freak out if I were asked to get married on such short notice, but what if this is the key to it all? Remember, after grandma was killed, she refused to go rest with her ancestors, instead she decided to stay here so she can help us get out of this predicament once we were ready. What if now is the time and you getting married is the starting point? Just what if?" Diana explained as calmly as she could and he actually got her point.

His grandmother would never pressure him to get married so soon for nothing.

Maybe this was the time for them to get their redemption.

"Diana, I have heard you. Right now, what I need is some time to assimilate this whole news and know what my next move will be. Is that okay?"

"Yeah, of course. Take your time. I will let you know if grandma says anything else" She said with a brilliant smile.

At that moment, Achilles could only wish that their grandmother would say nothing again because it seemed like her requests were going to bring him to his early grave.

Marriage was something that had never crossed his mind and now that he had to do it soon enough, he didn't even know where to start!

"Sweet moon goddess" He exclaimed in frustration and Diana just kept on smiling as she made her way out of his bedroom, to hers.

She lived in her brother's chambers, despite the fact that she had hers. After the massacre fifteen years ago, he had never let her go away from his sight even for his single minute and till date, he was still weirdly overprotective of her, despite the fact that she was a hybrid.

Both vampire and witch and that made her the most powerful person in that pack, but her brother still believed to hat she needed his protection.

Once she got into her bedroom, she walked straight into her secret room where all her grandmother's magical instruments were kept. From her spell books to her ornaments. Everything had been transferred there.

Diana began discussing with the ghost of her grandma ever since she turned ten years old, all she needed to do was go into that secret room and call her name and she would appear. Sometimes, she would come in and meet her already waiting for her like now.

"Did you tell him?" Her grandmother asked the moment she walked in.

"Yes grandma and he was terrified, but I know he will come around."

  "He sure will"

"Grandma, may I know why you suddenly want Achilles to get married so soon?" Diana asked curiously and her grandmother walked close to her with her usual very serious look plastered on her face.

"The first day I appeared to you, I told you I was here because I needed to uplift the curse I placed on you all and that had to be done only when you all are ready. Fifteen years have gone by like fifteen days and now, you all are ready to fight. To get your revenge on that tyrant. However that will done in a series of events, which will have to start with your brother finding a wife for himself"

  "I see…"

"You are not meant to understand anything as of now, but with time, these things will make sense to you. Alpha D'argan thought he defeated you all fifteen years ago, but he doesn't know he just started a war he wouldn't even live to see how it ends. I satisfied him by granting his wish of making you all barren, but I placed a curse on him and sooner or later, that curse will cause his doom. Nothing goes for nothing!" The next thing Diana could feel was a strong breeze that blew across the room and that caused all the hair on her body and head to stand erect. Goose bumps appeared all over body and she shivered.

Once her grandmother was out of sight, everywhere was calm again and he dropped to her knees and breathed hard.

She could feel the anger that was encoded in her grandmother's words and the fury with which she spoke scared her to death.

What curse did she place on Alpha D'argan and what did she mean by his Nothing goes for nothing?.

She hated the fact that her grandmother always spoke in parables, but there was nothing she could do about it.

Her guts kept telling her that something big was on the way.

Something no one was prepared for.
