CHAPTER NINE

THIRD PERSON'S POV

“But pain's like water. It finds a way to push through any seal. There's no way to stop it. Sometimes you have to let yourself sink inside of it before you can learn how to swim to the surface.”

― Katie Kacvinsky

For the next few days Myra wallowed in her misery. However, she did keep her word. She managed to stay out of the alpha's way. In fact, she had left the pack house. She was currently staying at the beta Ryan's place. Of course no one knew this. Beta Ryan was gay and unmated though no one knew that either.

He had shared his secret with Myra in confidence and she had sworn to keep it. Of course she knew that many pack members would raise eyebrows at their living arrangements but that didn't matter to beta Ryan and she was also fine with it.

There was change in her life, the positive kind, from having no one to having a friend, in fact , two. She had also befriended an omega with the name Crista. She was as kind as a kite and as beautiful as they come. She was the one who brought food for Myra at beta Ryans place.

Oh she was pathetic, she thought. Despite having food and shelter, she longed for Xavier, dreamed of him every night, hoped for him to think of her. How could she think of him when all he had done since their first meeting was reject her and hurt her.

Isn't that how the matebond worked? It drove one to insanity, to destruction and one could only do so little to avoid it. In her case, there was no avoiding it, all she could do was accept it but it turned out that way harder than she had imagined it.

Stab the body and it heals, but break the heart and the wound lasts a lifetime. She had heard it before from her mother. Then she was too young to make sense of it, but now, in pain she understood it well. How it hurt, she discovered to love someone and receive none of that love in return. Did he know how much he had hurt her? she wondered.

She felt a flash of heat run through her body and screamed in pain. She started feeling hot all over, so she made her way to the bathtub, filled it with water and sat inside. She was in heat and she knew it, but as the flashes burned through her body, she only wished for one person to be with her, Xavier, she wished he would at least come to relieve her pain even if he didn't care.

She heard the door open but was in too much pain to find out who it was .

"Myra, you are in heat. I have to call Xavier." she heard Ryan say.

"No, please", she gave a useless protest, but he was already out the door.

She felt light headed due to all the pain and lost consciousness.
