The Wrong Girl

Claire Henderson looked at the pictures on her desk. In the back of her mind, she knew this was going to happen. She was surprised that it hadn't happened sooner. Nick looked so young in the photo, eighteen, still a child in many ways. Though he was sensible most of the time, and she knew that he was a good man. 

The package pushed through the letterbox contained letters and photos, but the message from Jessica was heartbreaking. A child was looking after her addict mother and only running away because she was in danger of being a sex slave. If any of this were true, even if she weren't Nick's child, she would make sure she was safe.

They walked back through the gardens to the house, Gabriel and Millie walked, Nick took off at the speed of sound back to the house. Gabriel pulled his phone out talking and reached for Millie's hand. He squeezed it gently, rubbing his thumb over the back of her hand. Gabriel finished his call.
