Chapter Two

“I would give him a call once I’m done here” Xavier said

“As anybody pulled down the body?” Jared asked

“No, everybody is too scared to even go near the blue moon valley. The body is still hanging there “ Xavier said

“Then let’s go get it then” Jared said

“You still have to get dressed and probably have breakfast I have an early morning errand to run. Why not finish up and I’ll come pick you up when I’m done?” Xavier asked

That looked fair to him so he agreed to it

“Just be quick about your errand. We don’t want that attention to last longer than it should” Jared told him

Xavier nodded left the house because he had decided to pay a visit to someone who knew everything that went on with all the packs. She was a seer and she probably had some answers for him. Although Jared wasn’t a fan of Sophia, the seer, Xavier didn’t see anything wrong with going to ask her for some help once in a while. Jared headed up to his study to think about what to do next. He would probably have to get the boy’s body on his own because only heaven knew where Xavier had to go so early. When he was done with his “alone” time in his study, he headed towards the bedroom. He knew that Alice wasn’t going to talk to him and he didn’t have the time for that drama. He just wanted some peace today but it was pretty obvious that there was none for him, at least, not today. He went into the bedroom and noticed she wasn’t there. He took his bath, got dressed and headed down for breakfast. She had made breakfast but she was neither in the kitchen or in the dining room. Jared concluded that she was just avoiding him but he knew that she was going to come around sooner or later so it didn’t bother him. He heard the front door open and close

“Are you ready?” he heard Xavier ask

“Yeah, c’mon. We have a lot of things to talk about!” he said as he grabbed his jacket and headed out of the house.

Xavier jumped into the driver’s seat and decided to drive his boss around for the day. It was a good thing Jared didn’t oppose to it. They drove to blue moon valley

“You said we have a lot to talk about. I’m listening” Xavier said to him, not taking his eyes of the road for a second. He never did that. His eyes would always remain on the road every time.

“Alice and I had another fight” he said

“This morning?” Xavier asked, surprised

“Not this morning. We had a fight yesterday” he said

“And what was the cause of this fight?” Xavier asked

“I honestly don’t know. I just don’t like any of it, not anymore. At first, it looked fun to argue and be at each other’s throat because it was tensed and toxic, plus we always have great sex after wards but I noticed that every argument pulls us apart. We are not exactly the dream couple type but we used to be better than this. We used to love each other, I guess but it’s all different now. It feels like I hurt her with everything I do” he said

“I don’t understand the last part. If you feel like you’re hurting her, then just try not to hurt her, it is that simple” Xavier said

“I don’t think it is that simple because Alice can provoke the worst parts of me. I did contemplate letting her go for good yesterday but it made no sense to me” Jared said

“Obviously, it shouldn’t make sense. She is your Luna, not that you have actually made progress into have a marriage ceremony or planned towards it. If I didn’t know you better, I would think that you don’t even want to make things official with this girl” Xavier said

“How can I want to make things official when all we do is argue and curse at each other?” Jared asked

“You are just twenty four. I think it is fine to not want to settle down and maybe you don’t even want to settle down. The only reason you even decided to find your Luna was because they told you it was necessary to have a spouse if you are to become an Alpha. Alice was just a means to an end for you in the beginning” Xavier reminded him

“Yes she was but now, it’s different. I love Alice, more than anything and I want to build a home with her and maybe have kids someday but I don’t think I can and I can’t push her out either. I have to find a way to send her away without doing that myself” he said

“If you think that is what you want then go right ahead. Just remember that it you lose her, you might never get her back” Xavier said

“I would find my way around it. Did you call the alpha of blue moon pack yet?” Jared asked

“Yes I did but he is still not meeting with us. He said he doesn’t have a reason to” Xavier explained

“What does he mean by he doesn’t have a reason to? One of his people killed one of ours and he says he doesn’t have a reason to? When we get back, prepare 3 men. We are going to pay him a visit tomorrow” Jared said

“I don’t think that is a good idea. It’s just one death. There is no need to make a fuss about it” Xavier said

“What do you mean by it’s just one death? It is more than one death! It’s a death of a minor. I don’t care what fight is going on, we do not get involved with minors. They are off limits! What the hell?”

“Look, I stopped by at the seers place. If we go there tomorrow. It doesn’t end well for anybody” Xavier said

“Then it wouldn’t. If I don’t do something about it now, it would repeat itself again and that wouldn’t be out of hate or spite, it would be because they know I wouldn’t do anything about it just because one seer said it would lead to a blood bath. It is already a blood bath. How many more kids are they going to take. What would you do if it was your own kid? Because the kid is a commoner, it suddenly doesn’t matter? It is just one death? How would Martha feel hearing those words from you?” Jared asked, pained by what Xavier said

“I am just trying to do whatever’s is best for everybody, Jared. If this thing turns into a blood bath, how many people would we lose just because of one death?”

“Xavi, if you are trying to stop me from meeting with the alpha of blue moon, you can’t. Just quit it” he said

They arrived at the gate and Xavier saw the body of the boy

“I take back what I said because what the hell is this?” he said as he got down from the car

“I just need to know why he did this and why he had to go after a kid. Even if the kid deserved to be punished, killing him wasn’t the way and then after he killed him, he hung him? Why would anybody do that? It makes no sense to me. That is why I need to hear his side of his story” Jared said as he walked up to the body.

His eyes glowed and he ran towards the gate. With one clear stride, he climbed the gate and got down from the gate with the body. He carried it to the back of the car and laid it there. He got into the car and drove off with the body. Xavier stayed in the passenger seat this time. Jared was silent all through the ride and Xavier knew exactly why he was silent. He was doing it again, blaming himself. Jared was a good leader and everybody knew that but sometimes, he was too hard on himself. Xavier decided to let things flow the way they wanted to flow and then they would see how it would turn out. They got into Crimson valley and they headed straight to Martha’s house. Jared sighed. One part of his job that he despised so much was this, telling mothers that their kids were no more. He hated to be the bearer of bad news but he had no choice, not in this case. He could have pushed the responsibility to Xavier bit it was a kid murdered and hung for display of power. There was no nice way to tell his mother that. He carried the boy to the door and nodded at Xavier.

Xavier knocked on the door and Martha opened the door

“No, no!” she said as tears welled up in her eyes. She didn’t want to believe that her baby boy was gone. She didn’t want to believe the rumors that went round about him being hung on the gate

“I am so sorry Martha. I wouldn’t stop until I find who did this and make sure that he pays for his crimes. I am so sorry once again” Jared said

He handed her the body and turned to leave. The deafening cry of Martha filled the air as they drove off. Jared sighed and he rested his head against the headrest of the cat seat as they drove back to his house. Xavier was silent through out the ride. When they got to the front of the house, Jared dropped from the car.

“I would gather the men and we would head to blue moon tomorrow morning” he said

“Thank you. That made me feel better. I understand that you are worried about another war. If it is avoidable, I would avoid it but a child died, Xavi. I can’t ignore that. If he has a very valid reason for killing Eddie then maybe we can talk things out or reason things out with him but just letting itbsoide without doing anything is what I can’t do” Jared said to him

“I understand” Xavier said as he dropped from the car and handed Jared the keys to the car

“C’mon. Let’s hope Alice made lunch” Jared said

“What do you plan on doing about Alice? Are you still planning on sending her home or finding a way to make her leave?” Xavier said

“I don’t know hut I will find a way to make her free. I can’t keep her here and all that I do is hurt her. It doesn’t make any sense to me” Jared said

“I know I am the last person that should give you a relationship advice, consider the fact that I suck at relationship but whatever you feel for Alice, it is real. I have seen the way you look at her, the way you talk to her, the way you try to fix things when they are bad and the way you always make it up to her. I have seen the way you have dropped your flirting attitude for her, your drinking attitude for her. I have seen you change because of a woman and losing all that because you think she deserves better would break you from inside” Xavier said to him

“So what do you want me to do?” he asked him

“Jared, I can’t answer that question for you. All I can say is whatever you do would either have a positive effect or a negative one. You have to be prepared for what that effect is. Your decision now would affect you in the long run so you have to make the right one” Xavier said

He headed up the stairs and looked back. He saw that Jared had not moved from where he was standing

“Are you coming in or not? We still have lunch to eat” he said
