Chapter 4: Give Me a Child

On the top floor of the luxurious presidential suite of the hotel, Edwin's favorite classical music played from the speakers. Cecily sat on the Persian carpet near the floor-to-ceiling windows, silently gazing at the view outside.

This location in Moon Bay offered the best view of the entire island, with a beach adorned by huge fireworks and a crowd of tourists. However, for some reason, Cecily felt as though the festivities belonged to others, and she had nothing.

Two days ago, she hadn't left her apartment when she was supposed to. What could she do? Her heart was imprisoned by Edwin.

Edwin had brought her here, but after entering the hotel, she hadn't seen him since.

In fact, when they got married, she had wanted to come here for their honeymoon, but the Turner Group's affairs had delayed their plans. Over a year had passed since then, and now, finally, she was here with him. When he said, "Give me one more chance," did he mean they were starting over? Cecily had no idea.

The sound of the door opening rang out, causing Cecily to instinctively tense up. On this entire island, only Edwin could enter a room without knocking. Following him was a faint scent of amber that wafted into Cecily's nose.

Within seconds, her back was against a chest that carried a chill. Cecily shivered from the cold.

"What's wrong?" A breeze blew into Cecily's ear, but she was so focused on the chilly sensation that she didn't pay much attention to Edwin's tone.

"Nothing," Cecily whispered softly.

Edwin's arm encircled her body, his hand covering hers that lay in front of her. The slightly calloused touch made Cecily's heart feel like a dandelion floating in the air, uncertain when it would land.

"Do you like it here?" Edwin asked.

"I like it," Cecily said. Her cheek accidentally brushed against Edwin's chin, causing an uncomfortable tingling sensation. She tried to move away from his embrace, but he held her tightly.

"Cecily, give me a child," he suddenly said.

Her entire body froze, blood and all. A sharp pain pierced her heart. Cecily managed to smile faintly, her eyes filled with sorrow. "Can we? Can we still have a child?" He had made her take medication that night, but today, he was asking her to give him a child. The irony of it all was not lost on her.

She didn't know whether she wanted to hurt Edwin or herself. Edwin remained silent, and just when Cecily thought he wouldn't say anything, he lifted her up. Cecily was shocked, and to maintain her balance, she had to wrap her arms around his neck.

Step by step, Edwin carried her to the bed, and they both fell onto it. Edwin was tall and had a sturdy physique, and Cecily struggled to bear his weight.

Looking down at her, Edwin lowered his head and kissed her lips. Sometimes the kiss was like a storm, and at other times, it was a gentle, lingering drizzle. He said, "Yes, I'm sorry. I was wrong before. Tomorrow, a doctor will come to see you."

Hearing his words and his admission of guilt, Cecily couldn't help but admit that her heart had been swayed. It had become so soft that even if Edwin were a pit of fire, she would still jump in.

His fingertips, slightly calloused, brushed her cheek. "Don't cry. From now on, you should be happy. Do you like it here? Shall we stay a bit longer before going back?"

"Okay," she replied. His words were so pleasing, making her surrender completely.
