Chapter 6

Darlington Briggs;

I woke up in my bedroom to the fresh start of a brand new day. It's New Year's Day. I was so excited because I wanted to go downstairs to officially inform my parents that I wanted to get married this year, and I had made up my mind to settle down with Jenna Colton.

Jenna has been my love since five years ago. I met her through her older brother, Bruce, because Bruce was my best friend in school.

We studied the same business course, and we live in Country Z, the heart of the city. The Colton family was also wealthy and well-known here.

Jenna's acting career has been successful. Several brands have featured her as their face.

I knew that she had gone through the knife and undergone a lot of surgeries to enhance her beauty, but I still love her nonetheless.

I love Jenna very much, and I didn't regret my decision to propose to her last weekend to marry me.

My father didn't react to my post, and to make matters worse, I cannot seem to find him online again after the news of my engagement to Jenna went viral.

My father purposely blocked me so he wouldn't see me post about Jenna again.

My dad had warned me to stop posting about Jenna. But Jenna is the woman after my heart.

How would I not post about the love of my life? That would mean I was cheating on her.

I love Jenna very much, and she's like the air I breathe. I cannot live without her; this is what I tell her every time, and I know that Jenna was hesitant about accepting my engagement ring from me. But she knew that I had always wanted us to settle down.

I had assured Jenna that she shouldn't worry about my father, and I would speak to him about agreeing and accepting our marriage.

Jenna had told me that she wasn't ready for marriage now and had a lot of things to do in her modeling job unless I waited for her, but I assured her that I wouldn't stop her from fulfilling her dreams just because she's my wife.

Since we started dating, I had supported her before, and I am still supporting her now.

I got out of bed and prepared to go downstairs to inform my father about my new marriage decision.

My father detested Jenna and had warned me to stay away from her; more likely, I should tell her not to find me again in our company. I wish I could visit my office and workspace, but I am unable to do so. I love Jenna very much, and I mean every word that I said and used when confessing my feelings to her.

I got into my bathroom. My room was vast and spacious enough. It could contain more than three luxury beds, and there would still be more space.

I finished bathing and saw that the time was after 9 a.m. On New Year's Eve, we had a cross-over night celebration at home, so I woke up late.

I was with my family, waiting to witness the fireworks and the crossing over to a brand new year.

I cannot wait to become a father soon. I know Jenna was scared of getting pregnant for me, but I want to marry her and assure her that I will always be there for her.

I went into my closet and grabbed a purple shirt and black trousers, which I wore. I comb my short black hair on my head.

I like to keep my hair smooth, so I left it to grow slightly. I finished combing my hair and then applied my masculine perfume to make me smell fresh, like New Year's Day.

I wore my black slippers and finally exited my bedroom on the top floor of my father's enormous mansion. We live in a standard duplex home. The house consists of 8 rooms, with a living room downstairs that includes a kitchen and guest rooms.

My father was the one who designed and instructed the constructors on how to build his massive mansion.

Jenna had told me that she didn't like to visit me here in my parents' home, as she knew that my father disapproved of her. I plan to buy a new house to move out of, just like Bruce did. But when I told my mother about it, that I planned on buying my own home.

My mother frowned and said that it was too early for me to be living alone now. However, I aspire to lead an independent life. She said that when my father married her, they lived in my grandpa's house in the countryside until my father had money and moved to the city to buy his own house.

According to my mother, I shouldn't move out here until I have a child or two children; then, I can move out of my father's house.

Well, this didn't sit down well with Jenna, and I promised her that I would get a house for her once we were married.

I walked downstairs into the living room, and my father was alone. He sat on the black couch in the living room and was wearing a white garment, like he hadn't taken his bath yet.

He was going through a file in his hands, and I walked downstairs to greet him.

"Good morning, Father," I said, and my dad paused what he was reading and looked at me.

He took off his glasses, which were perfectly seated on the bridge of his nose.

He kept it inside the case and looked back at me as a warm smile crept on his face. He replied to my greetings, "Good morning, Darlington." Happy New Year."

"Happy New Year, Dad. Where is Mom?" I inquired, and my dad said, "She's upstairs and still in her room. "You know that we slept late last night."

"I know, Dad," I replied, sitting across from my father.

"Yes, Darlington. That reminds me. I wanted to tell you about this yesterday night, but I decided not to be in a hurry about it," my dad said.

"What is it, Dad?" I inquired, looking at my father's face.

He sighed and said, "Your wife, Amara Nicholas, is coming to the city today. "She will start living with us."

"What!" I exclaimed in utmost disbelief.
