Vera's POV:

From what memories served, Sam's grandfather had always been a rough old man.

I'd only met him twice before. Once during a formal family meeting, and again at our wedding. We scarcely spoke to each other. I was mostly terrified of him and his beatable stick.

There's also the fact that Sam's grandfather is a stickler for tradition.

Mrs. Thompson told me that he had softened over the years, especially after she married an honhyeol, which translates as mixed blood. Even with that incredible softening, he wasn't pleased when Sam agreed to marry a black lady.

I believe his words were; "I do not agree with this marriage arrangement."

"Oehal-abeonim," Sam greeted with a bow. His face grimaces due to pain, but he holds it in.

He approached the room one step at a time, terrifying everyone, especially myself.

Mrs. Thompson approached him, clutching his hanmok. "Appa. Don't be too harsh on Sam. He is still-"

He hissed at Mrs. Thompson, and she let go of the hanmok, her gaze downwar
