Chapter 3

“Mommy, we’re okay,” Night calmly stated.

Thankfully, the kids were unharmed as the other driver managed to hit the brakes in time. Amy breathed a sigh of relief.

“Sweeties, Mommy’s going to see what just happened. You two stay in the car, okay?”

After telling them to stay put, she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out.

The driver of the car behind her also exited his vehicle. He checked his car and confronted Amy with a hint of anger. “Do you know how to drive? You stopped abruptly on the road!”

“I’m so sorry. My car seems to have broken down.”

Amy knew it was her fault and sincerely apologized. She turned to look at her car, which had a large dent in the back, and then at the other car. Her face turned pale as she recognized the vehicle as a Maybach. Worse still, it was not just any Maybach, but a limited edition one. It was valued at forty million at the very least.

She was well aware that she had to bear the cost of the accident. The thought of compensating such an enormous sum made her heart sink.

The past two years had been tough due to her grandmother’s illness. It left them financially strapped with hardly any savings. Where would she find the money for such a hefty compensation without insurance? It would cost no less than ten thousand dollars.

Amy was sweating while these thoughts were racing through her mind. She bowed deeply in apology once again. “I’m very sorry, so sorry!”

Other than apologizing profusely, she was out of options.

The driver was breathing heavily with his hands on his hips. He frowned at her and said, “What’s the use of apologizing now? I’m not at fault here. You have to take responsibility for this. Let’s wait for the traffic police and insurance company to arrive. Then, we’ll talk about compensation.”

Hearing this, Amy became anxious.

She wrung her hands and appeared embarrassed. “I... I don’t have that much money,” she said in a low voice.

The driver squinted to size up the woman before him. “You’re not thinking of running away from this, are you?”

Amy waved her hands in denial. “No. I didn’t mean that.”

At this moment, Night and Star also got out of the car. They had heard that a large sum was needed for compensation. Knowing the family’s financial struggles, they were worried, and they called out in unison, “Mommy.”

The kids walked up to Amy and clutched the hem of her clothes. Their eyes were filled with unease.

Amy patted their heads gently and looked up at the driver. “Sir, I’m not trying to run away from this. I acknowledge my mistake, but is there any way you could be a bit lenient? I really can’t come up with so much money all at once,” she said.

She explained her position before she suggested a solution, “How about I give you my contact information and offer the payment to you in installments?”

Upon hearing her suggestion, the driver frowned.

Seeing this, Night and Star quickly pleaded on their mother’s behalf, “Mister, we really don’t have that much money. Please, could you make an exception? We promise to pay you back.”

Star even put her hands together and pleaded sweetly, “Please, please.”

The driver’s expression softened slightly upon seeing how adorable they were. He was not as stern anymore, but he could not make the decision himself. “Wait here,” he said.

With that, he walked to the back seat and bent down to knock on the window.

The car window slowly rolled down.

With a respectful attitude, he asked the other party for instructions, “Mr. Lewis, how should we handle this?”
