Chapter 4

It appeared that the man was not the decision-maker. The owner of the Maybach was likely sitting in the back of the car.

Amy instinctively looked over and saw a man dressed in a sharp black suit. His features were strikingly attractive. In addition, he had the charm and aura of nobility, which demanded attention.

However, his lips were incredibly pale, and he looked somewhat frail. He was resting with his eyes closed.

There was a young man wearing gold-rimmed glasses next to him. He appeared mature and calculating, but his face was filled with concern.

“Lester, give this lady your business card. We’ll discuss the compensation later. Right now, we need to take Mr. Lewis to Dr. Hamlin. Let’s not waste time here,” he said.

As they spoke, Amy approached the car and caught a whiff of blood emanating from inside. She frowned and guessed that the man inside must be injured. She could not help but take a second look. She could sense that this was not someone to be trifled with.

In the car, Aiden Lewis raised his brows when he felt the scrutinizing gaze from beside him.

He slowly opened his eyes and cast a fleeting glance. It was sharp and devoid of any human emotion.

Amy had never seen such a gaze before. She shivered involuntarily and quickly looked away. For some reason, she found this person vaguely familiar.

Before she could think further, she heard the driver agree, “Alright.”

Lester, the driver, turned to her and asked, “What’s your name? Give me a contact number.”

“My name is Amy Green, and this is my phone number,” Amy honestly replied.

Then, she took out her phone from her pocket. “This is a legit number. Don’t worry. I won’t run away. I just can’t come up with a lot of money all at once. I hope you can negotiate with your employer on my behalf about the car’s repair costs. Maybe we could work out an installment plan, so I’ll have some time to gather the funds.”

After he called her and made sure the number was real, Lester’s expression softened. “You got lucky today. You can go now. We’ll contact you later to discuss the amount and when to pay.”

“Okay. I’ll make sure my phone is on twenty-four hours a day. Thank you.” Amy nodded in thanks.

Still somewhat unconvinced, he pointed at her and sternly warned, “Don’t think about changing your number or evading payment. We can easily discover your identity and address. If you pull any tricks, we won’t be as nice as we are now.”

“I won’t. Like I said, I accept it as my responsibility, and I won’t evade payment,” she reassured him multiple times.

Lester then got into the car and quickly drove off.

After she watched them leave, Amy suddenly felt a weight on her shoulders. Looking down, she saw her two children holding her hands with furrowed brows.

“Mommy, what are we going to do? Do we have to pay them a lot of money?” Star Green looked up with concern.

“It’s okay. Mommy will figure it out.” Amy smiled slightly as she comforted the little ones.

She did not want the children to worry about money at such a young age.

However, despite her reassurances, Amy herself was uncertain.

How was she supposed to gather such a large sum of money in such a short period of time?
