EMILIA POV“You’re in heat,” Marcel’s words played on loop in my head as I felt an electric jolt go through my entire body.“Oh, my goodness,” I grunted as my stomach tightened and exploded with something hot and oddly blissful, filling me with pleasure but making me want more, like I was being fed an addictive nectar of sorts.“You haven’t experienced it before, have you?” Marcel inquired. Before I could answer, a sweet scent wafted across my nostrils, causing me to crawl desperately on the bare ground towards the other side of the cell, leaving one wall separating me from Marcel. He smelled so good, and it would have made me ashamed to even think about him in that manner, but I couldn’t help it. He couldn’t possibly fault me for something I couldn’t control.“I can smell how close you are, Emilia,” he whispered huskily, and my heart dropped.A part of me felt like I was doing something abominable, stabbing Lucas in the back. The other part of me couldn’t care less. Lucas had rejecte
EMILIA POVI tried to stand up, but my body caved under the weakness of the heat that was still flowing through my body. The vampire sniffed the air almost comically, his grin widening even more as he grabbed a hold of the bars I was in.“You smell delectable,” he commented, but that was in no way meant to be a compliment, and I knew it. It was nothing short of a threat, and this vampire was indirectly telling me that if he eventually got his fangs on me, it would be bad.“Stay away from me,” I warned, crawling into a far corner of the cell.“You’re going into the darkness, Emilia,” he said, causing me to gasp in surprise as to how he knew my name.“How…how do you know my name? What do you want from me? What are you doing here?” I questioned.“Too many questions, only few answers,” the vampire laughed, roughly tugging at the bars of the cell to scare me, and he knew that it was working.“If you could just stop making a hell of a noise, blood sucker,” Marcel said, distracting the vampi
EMILIA POVI would have laughed if the situation had been different; if I had not been strapped to a chair by one of the most dangerous creatures I had come across.“You want me – a werewolf – to carry your child; the heir of a vampire?” I questioned, my face most likely holding the amusement I felt at his boldness.“Exactly.” He nodded, not seeming to see a problem with it even though I had just laid it out in front of him so bluntly.“I don’t think you understand this, Daemon.” I shook my head, attempting to get it into his head once more. “I am a werewolf, and you are a vampire. We both should not be seeing eye to eye, even, and you’re talking about having a child with me?”“Now, I didn’t say anything about having a child with you directly, Emilia. Try to keep up,” he told me, walking to the other side of this sick laboratory and picking up a huge syringe that made my heart plop to my stomach in terror.“What are you… what are you doing?” I stuttered, watching him stick the needle
EMILIA POVThe next time I opened my eyes, I found myself back in the bedroom that I had woken up in the first time. After a few more seconds of trying to grasp at my consciousness and figure out what was happening around me, I realized that my hands were now chained to the headboard.“Daemon!” I called out, in need of an explanation on everything that had happened to me before and while I was unconscious. An image flashed in my head, and I suddenly remembered seeing Katarina inside the strange laboratory that Daemon had taken me into.“No, no, that’s not right,” I told myself, shaking my head. My memory wasn’t right. What would Katarina, of all people, be doing in vampire territory with the king of the vampires? That would be likened to her begging for her death and for her brother’s pack to get attacked again. The image came again and this time, I tried to replace her face with someone else’s, anyone else that could have been there but had been mistaken for Katarina, but I couldn’t.
EMILIA POVI looked at Katarina for a long time, and she looked back at me. I shifted my gaze to Daemon, expecting him to say anything that could assure me that this was all one big joke and maybe even a part of the training that Katarina had wanted to put me through.“What do you mean by the child I’m carrying?” I asked as my hands instinctively wrapped around my stomach in my attempt to find out if she was telling the truth.“You’re pregnant, Emilia. We couldn’t wait until you woke up anymore. You’ve been waning in and out of consciousness for four days now.”“It’s been four days?” I gasped, getting off the bed and looking at them in disbelief.“What is wrong with you two? What happened to you, Katarina? Why would you want me to have a child so that you can use the child to kill your brother? Coercing with a vampire against your blood and your pack is treachery!” I shouted, as if the sister of an Alpha wouldn’t already know what treachery was, along with the punishment for it.lL“I’
EMILIA POVI tried hard to pull my hands out of the chains and reach for Daemon, even if it was just a scratch to his face before he would seize me and chain me back, but I couldn’t do it.“Why are you doing this?!” I screamed at him as he started to make his way to the door.“Will you stop screaming in my ears? It’s bad for the child as well,” he told me, his voice mocking.“I’m going to kill it before it makes its way into the world!” I threatened, thrashing around in the bed in my attempt to wear myself out and kill the baby. I soon raised my legs up and kicked my knees back, hoping that I would land enough blows to my stomach to kill the child. When Daemon pieced together what it was that I was trying to do, he rushed towards me and grabbed me by the legs, making sure I didn’t harm myself or the baby.“What is your problem?!” he screamed, raising his hand and slapping me on the face. He quickly unchained me and pulled me by the arms out of the room as I kicked and tried to force m
KATARINA POVI walked towards my brother’s house only to be pulled by a pack member, who was wailing and rambling on and on about something I couldn’t hear properly.“Calm down, ma’am,” I told her as softly as I could. “Please, take deep breaths and tell me what’s wrong. Are you being chased by someone?”“My sons!” She fell to her knees, holding me by the legs and looking up at me as she choked on her own tears. “My sons! They were missing for three whole days. I just found the body of one of them! Please help me, Katarina! I don’t know what to do.”My eyes widened in feigned shock.“What do you mean? That’s not possible. No pack member would kill anyone. Let’s go,” I commanded.Just then, the door opened and Lucas walked out. I almost rolled my eyes at his imperfectly perfect timing and how the woman ran to him as soon as she set her eyes on him.“What’s happening here?” he asked the woman, a concerned smile on his face. He had grown to become more and more like an alpha each day, an
KATARINA POVThe next morning, word got out from the soldiers of the pack that the investigators had started to go missing as well, and two of their bodies had been found in the woods. I had never been prouder of my plan. It was all falling into place.“I think we should tell the Council about this before they pay us a visit and have to find out for themselves,” I suggested to my brother that morning as we got back from the woods, where I had instructed the soldiers to dump the bodies of the two investigators.“Not yet. Go gather the rest of the investigators,” he commanded. “I am going to conduct a thorough search within the pack. Whoever is doing this needs to be stopped.”“I still think the Elders need to know, even if you want to have things under control. Things are only going to get worse for you if you—”“For the Moon Goddess’s sake, Katarina, can you follow my instructions without having something to suggest when I don’t want it?!” he snapped at me, his eyes holding enough fru
