BRIAN'S POV CONTINUES

I answered the phone, putting it on speaker phone and I remained as quiet as the grave.

We didn't hear a word from the other end either, and it continued for two minutes into the call.

I was just about to hang up, when we began to hear very weak, struggling breaths from Steven's end.

“Steven,” Blaire called.

I immediately hung up.

“What did you do that for?” she queried, wearing a confused look.

“He might be in captivity,” I replied, throwing the device on the bed, and immediately getting out, walking towards the glass wall.

“Or he might be lying somewhere, fighting for his life and too weak to talk,” Blair countered.

I was deep in thought and wasn't sure what my next move should be.

‘She did have a point though,’ I thought.

Steven and I had codes we lived by. They were a set of rules we properly discussed in times of danger, ever since we were young boys in our early teens.

Our rules got reviewed and upgraded as we grew older, but we hadn't discussed any
