Eric's mum knocked on his door. They hadn't spoken in days and Eric was planning to keep it that way.

Eric eventually stood to open his door. He didn't know what she must have come to say and even though he really didn't want to hear anything but she was still his mum regardless.

"Can I sit?" She asked after entering into the room.

"Sure," he said sitting on the edge of his bed.

There was a bit of awkward silence as they both sat, staring at each other.

"I am sorry," she said and Eric turned to face her.

"Why did you do it?" Eric asked. "And please don't say to protect me again,"

His mum stayed quiet for a while before speaking.

"I wanted you to get the position and I didn't mind doing anything to make you get it," His mum said.

"Even if it meant taking away the only person I have ever really loved?"

"I am sorry, I really hope you can forgive me."

"If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't take this route and I would have made better decisions."
