Chapter 6

“You know I am way better than Brianna.. Just leave her so we can make it official..”

It made my steps abruptly halted as my lips parted in surprise. I was caught off guard as I've never thought that it could be Lorenzo, but then, I remembered that all those times that I caught him was also unexpected.

“Don't you want to check who's over there? You're not the only one who's name is Brianna, but.. who knows, right?” someone from behind me suddenly spoke.

My head quickly whipped behind me and I saw the nurse I left in my father's room. Instantly, my brows furrowed upon seeing her arrogantly smirking at me as she hugged her stuff against her chest.

“Are you scared?” she queried. Her voice full of mocking and she didn't try to hide it.

I straightened my body as I tilted my head at her. “Excuse me? But do we know each other?” I had to ask because I seriously didn't know her at all and it's  my first time to see her, but she seemed to have grudges with me.

My question seemingly like infuriated her, that her smile immediately vanished and was replaced by a frown.

“You don't know me,” she answered.

I nodded and innocetly looked at her, “I'm sure of that, that's why I'm confused why you're acting like we know each other?” I retaliated.

Her eyes turned to slit as she threw me daggers. I'm pretty sure she felt embarrassed and wanted to return the favor, but then, I didn't give her the opportunity to humiliate me.

No one can, and no one will.

“Your life will prosper if you start minding your own business. Just a piece of advice,” I grinned before I elegantly sauntered inside the elevator.

When the door finally closed, I let out a heavy breath and balled my hands into fists. My blood was boiling as I could imagine Lorenzo sucking whoever that woman's face and promising to do what she was asking him.

My mood quickly turned sour and I already lost my appetite. That's why, I ended up just having a very strong and bitter coffee and did not bother getting any light breakfast anymore.

I didn't want to go back upstairs as I was afraid they were still at it and I might bump into that annoying nurse again. I decided to just stay at the coffee shop instead and waste my time there..

I had no plans to come back to my father's room until I was sure Lorenzo wasn't in the vicinity anymore. But unfortunately, the guy knew how to keep his words now that he really didn't leave and even searched for me to bring me back to Dad's ward.

“I've been trying to call you,” he said coldly.

I smirked at him in return and just stood up as a response, not bothering to say something, because I knew what would come out of my mouth was about him screwing another woman on the staircase.

Although I didn't see him there, I was certain it was him, because the nurse won't even tell me those things if she wasn't sure I'm the ‘Brianna’ the woman was pertaining to.

I shook my head.

That annoying nurse was just one of many other women who never fails to poke their noses in my business. I am so used to them that I didn't think much about them because they were just a bunch of jealous people who'd like to be in my shoes.

If only they know. My life was miserable and full of shit Im more than willing to trade it for a simple and peaceful life.

I grinned.

“Brianna..” called Lorenzo.

I stopped and looked over my shoulder to see him. His face was dark and his stares were piercing on me.

“Aren't we in a hurry? I thought you were looking for me because there's an emergency?” I inquired nonchalantly.

My brows rose up when he didn't respond and I took that opportunity to face my back on him again and continued walking, leaving him behind.

I heard him follow suit, but didn't bother to say something anymore. I preferred that as I retained the smile plastered on my face until we finally reached my father's room.

Automatically, my brows arched upon seeing my father already fully awake and was grinning directly at me while sitting on his bed as if he wasn't in the hospital and had a heart attack.

"Good morning!" he greeted enthusiastically.

Slowly, I entered the room and walked towards him. But then I halted in the middle when I noticed that there was another person, sitting frigidly on the couch.

Scowling, I looked at my father questioningly, "What is Attorney Gonzalez doing here?" I asked.

Theodore Costales, my Dad laughed heartily and called Mr. Gonzalez to come over. The attorney immediately complied with a suitcase in his hand. I've got a bad feeling about it, but I didn't voice it out. Instead, I waited for them to throw the bomb before I decided to react.

"Lorenzo come over here," said Dad.

My eyes darted at Lorenzo who was just right behind me. And I saw his eyes still darkly looking at me. His hand then automatically snaked around my waist when he finally stood next to me.

"Attorney.." he greeted with a nod.

Mr. Gonzalez nodded back with pursed lips.

I had known that lawyer since I was a kid and I had never seen him smile at all. If I didn't know better, I would think he didn't like Lorenzo but that's just how he looks at everyone, including me and my father.

“Give it to them,” my Dad ordered.

The lawyer nodded once again as he was silently standing on the other side of my father's bed, across from us. He then opened his brown suitcase and opened it, then pulled out some papers from it.

My heart thumped for unknown reasons the moment I saw it. I don't know but I had a very bad feeling about it. I looked at my father and the crease on my forehead just became more defined when I caught him grinning at me, or rather, us.

"What are you planning?" I asked impatiently.

Lorenzo pulled me closer to him which made me look up at him. He gave me a reassuring smile that only increased my suspicion that it was not really good. He was not smiling and seemed too serious and that's what scared me the most.

I shut my eyes then, and took a deep breath to calm myself. I thought I needed to prepare for whatever craziness my father had thought this time, because I know I'm going to lose it if I let my emotions overpowered me.

The last thing I wanted was another drama. I've long passed it and I have never wanted to be the sensitive one ever again. Building another wall around me, I opened my eyes and hesitantly accepted the paper from Mr. Gonzalez.

"It's about time you two should get married," father stated.

Instantly, I threw the papers back to Mr. Gonzalez and stepped away, harshly removing Lorenzo's grip. My head then snapped at Theodore, my adoptive father with fury in my eyes.

"No," I said coldly before walking out of the room, leaving the three manipulative gentlemen behind.
