8: A Companion

"Who are you?" I asked. I can feel something strange about him, I am certain he is not just an ordinary man.

His gaze shifted at me and grinned as he saw my face.

"I am not expecting to see the cat who got lost in this area." I frowned. Is he pertaining to me? What's the meaning of his words then?

"I am asking you, who are you and what do you need?" My patience got shorter, especially when he smirked.

"You don't know me but I know a lot about you, and this little fox." He looked at Diane meaningfully. "I did not know Blood Moon pack would give way to a rogue like you. It's a shame, the Silver wolf pack just gave up on someone brave and respects equality, it's their loss. Don't you want revenge?" My eyes widened. How did he know about what happened to me? He is not part of us, the news isn't that fast to grow either since we are far away from others.

"How did you know that?" I asked, pointing my dagger at him.

He laughed, as if trying to piss me. However, I need to remain calm. I still don't know his capabilities.

"I'm telling you, I know more than you knew." He stepped forward so I made my defenses up. Diane remained in her position, and she's also ready for what this man can do next. "Although I am not here to fight, I can give you some advice instead."

I was confused, but I waited for what he would say.

"You should always look behind you as your friend isn't always someone you need to trust. They might put a dagger on your skull." I gulped. That's what I exactly experienced, so what he meant is useless to me now. It already happened.

After that was his creepy laugh. He looked at the both of us again and turned around to leave until we couldn't see him anymore, he just faded in the woods.

I heard Diane gasp so I shifted my attention to her. She's holding her right eye, it seems like she's feeling pain. I went near her to check but she immediately ran away from me.

"Diane!" I shouted her name then started following her. We found a lake, she went there and quickly washed her face. "What happened?" I asked, concerned about her.

"Don't ask." I am worried about her, but she doesn't want to share anything with me. I am sure she knew that man earlier. I did not even have the chance to ask his name. But sure, once I see him again, I will not let him leave my sight without knowing who he really is and what's his reason for coming to us.

I waited for her to relax and followed her way since she knew it better than me. I don't know how many days it will take for us to reach their base.

"You're from the Silver wolf pack." I looked at her, it's already morning and she already broke the silence between us. We decided to rest under the tree, she threw a fruit on me and I caught it easily.

We are much safer traveling in the dark since we can't stay in one place. Wolves and other dangerous animals were waiting for some prey at night. We can encounter more than what we had last night.

"Yes." I answered her question. I miss the bond between me and that pack, the time when everything's still fine. However, I don't regret helping her either. I can't ignore the fact that until now, Samantha still has a tiny space in my heart. All of them actually. Even though she did those cruel things to me. I just can't hate her that much. What we experienced together isn't something I can throw away quickly.

Maybe this is my destiny. Moreover, I still want to have a home to go back to.

"I heard that the Alpha was engaged to a soldier female." I smiled. It was a long story ago, a lot has changed. I am not the one he loves anymore. But the story will remain.

However, I guess Diane doesn't know that the one she's talking about was actually me.

"I am busy doing my work and I can't really recall that much about them. I just know the Alpha is strong, and that soldier loves him more than herself." I felt like my words were a weapon to open wounds in my heart that trying its best to heal, I bit my lips to suppress the emotions that can be shown.

"What's your work then?" She asked while biting the fruit. I looked directly at her eyes and smiled.

Rankings isn't the one we're trying to follow in the pack since then. We can be way better than we were born, we just need to prove ourselves. And it started because of my lead. I thought Argus loved the fact that equality began to rule the whole pack. Or maybe, just maybe, that's also the reason why Samantha got my spot. Equality, I did not know then that what I took care of was also the one to break me.

I was ordered to lead the soldiers of the pack and lead the battles because of my strength and I am happy to do that too. I want to maintain the peace, but my heroism led me to my own downfall.

"I am just a lowlife wolf, I managed things on my own." I told her. Not who I am in the pack but who I am right at this moment. I don't want to complicate things anymore.

"Liar. Your skills aren't something held by a lowlife one." I chuckled, shaking my head. She knew many things but I am certain I can easily fool her, as long there's nothing more to trigger the curiosity.

"I told you, I managed things on my own. Being alone made me stronger. I can do whatever I want." And I am right, she seemed to believe it right away.

"What kind of people are there? What does your pack value the most?" I don't know that she's also curious about other packs.

"Like what I said, equality was the one we value the most." I told her.

"What did you do they kicked you out? You're a rogue now. Feels like it's peaceful there since they value mighty equality as what you said. Did you kill someone? Stole something? Or turn against their rules?" Her eyes shine brighter than the morning sun while she keeps on learning things.

None of them. I just did what I needed to do but was betrayed by someone I truly care about. I smiled recalling the scene in the past.

"Maybe because I was too weak to fight for what was mine. I can't speak for myself that much. One mistake and I decided to go and free myself." I lied. I can speak, but they did not let me.

I stood up, I might spill something I don't want if she continues asking these kinds of questions. I don't want her to know what happened to me. I won't bother anyone from them. It's my personal problem, and it has nothing to do with the Blood Moon pack.

I heard her sighed. I saw her standing then carried the basket again.

"It will take more than 2 days before we reach the pack. Let's move." I took a deep breath before walking. We need to go now. 2 days isn't that long anymore. I will soon see those people.

I want to know what kind of people they really are, and if the rumors about them were true.

On top of that, I would like to learn more about their skills, having the title of the most powerful and dangerous pack intrigues the hell out of me.

Days have passed and we did not get to relax ourselves anymore, even though we were trying to rest one at a time. Diane said we are running out of time, I would like to ask but she did not bother to tell me the whole story. She just said something big was waiting for us. However, they need Sebastian there. In the meantime that I was with her, I realized that she's not that bad, she just really wants to protect Sebastian. I also learned that Sebastian was the only heir, however he is under observation if he has the power and quality of being the next leader.

I sometimes think that their pack value rules more than anything. Old wolves were the one to decide if he is qualified to be the next generation Alpha. It's not about their bloodlines but their characteristics to lead. When I get there, I need to be careful about those oldies.

One thing still bothers me, and I don't want to ask about it. I just also shook it at the back of my head. I am certain I will also know the answer for that sooner or later.

"We are near the area. Let's move quickly." What Diane told me gave me shivers. This is it, I am already coming to their base.

"Stop." Diane stopped me using her hand. I am behind her so she can easily tell me what to do. I am just following her the whole trip.

"Are we here now?" I asked, curious about the place since I can't see anything here.

"Yes." She then looked down, we were at a cliff at this moment so I followed what she did.

My jaw dropped after seeing the different houses down there, it felt like I was seeing a city in a civilized area.

Is this the Blood Moon pack?
