Fights
Sebastian Running after the rogues at full speed, I let Flint, my wolf, take over the physical part, but I am still in charge of the mind-link and most of the cognitive activity. It’s sort of odd being in the body of my wolf. When I am in my human form, Flint is there, but rather dormant most of the time. I am almost always cognizant of what is happening while we are on a hunt like this one. The only time I even tune out a little bit is on a long run, like when we got to the city on foot. Now, I am running alongside Dez, and the two rogues that took off from the house are in front of us. I see our other forces coming in from the side. I am almost certain we are going to be able to apprehend these two, as well. Having three is always better than having one because there’s a good chance at least one of them will break. But I&rsq

The Cloudy Truth
Aria “What are you talking about?” I ask Mim as she ducks down quickly and snatches up the piece of paper that I’ve dropped. “You did find something in Grip’s desk, didn’t you?”I pull it out of her hand. “How do you know that?” I ask her, tucking the paper back away, praying it stays where I put it this time.“Why else would you be carrying around a piece of paper in your cleavage?” she asks me. “It has to be something you found in there.”“So what?’ I say. “You make it sound like I’m supposed to trust you, when you clearly don’t trust me. There’s no way in hell I’ll trust you after this!” I gesture at the tiny pieces of pa

Mapping It Out
Sebastian The three rogues are taken down to the basement and put in three separate cells. One of the Omegas notified Grip, and he is on his way back from the city to interrogate them. If anyone can do it, it’s him. He’ll have them singing like canaries within a few minutes. That doesn’t stop me from trying, though. I don’t even bother to go back to my room to take a shower, just grab some clothes out of an emergency stash in my office and then head down the stairs to see where we are. The three of them are loud, yelling at my men to let them go, and I listen intently to try to see who sounds the most frightened. I choose the guy in the middle room and head in.He’s naked, which doesn’t bother either one of us, despite the fact that we are not pack members.

Escape
Aria My mind is made up. I know what I have to do. I go into automatic mode, rushing through the steps I have to follow in order to have the best chance of getting out of here without getting caught. I figure my ability to walk out the door in the daylight is just as likely to get me where I want to go as sneaking out at night, so that’s what I plan to do.But I remember that Dez said people do monitor the cameras. I have to assume that means the house cameras, too, and if they’ve just captured rogues, there’s probably a good chance they’re watching them extra closely. So I can’t look like me when I walk out of here.I go to Sebastian’s closet and dig around, looking for a disguise. I see a ball cap on a top shelf, one I’ve never seen him wear before.

Gone Girl
Sebastian I stand in the foyer, watching as the car pulls away. I know that what I’ve done will cause problems, but it has to be this way, even if Dez and my father don’t understand the situation. I will have to speak with both of them eventually, and neither of those conversations will be pleasant.I hear the sound of hurried footsteps behind me and realize one of those conversations will be happening a lot more quickly than I previously realized.“Sebastian!” my cousin shouts as he practically skids to a stop in front of me, his shoes not quite appropriate for the marble floor. “What the hell are you thinking?”“I’m sorry, Dez,” I say, my hands up as I try to explain. “I had no choice.&r

Journey
Aria Ruby is flying across the open ground, her claws digging into the soft earth and flipping out chunks of grass and dirt with each step. She doesn’t slow for anything. Not large boulders in our way, babbling brooks or wider streams, not even a sharp incline now and again. She runs on, for hours, and when the sun begins to drop below the horizon, I know we have transitioned out of the forests of the north into the mountainous areas further south. If we keep going and actually make it to our homeland, we will be in an area similar to the forest we have just left, but in the south it is swampier. The forests are in the wetlands. I am looking forward to being back home, but it’s too early for me to assume we’ll make it safely. We have a long way to go, and I am fairly certain we’ll be crossing into other pack territories, and there’s a good chance we&rsqu

Night Run
Aria Ruby doesn’t stop running. She just keeps moving, all through the evening, into the night. By the time she finally finds a place to hunker down for a few hours of sleep, the sun is beginning to rise above the horizon in the distance. It is a smart move, one I cannot fault her for. This way, the night patrols of wolves, the ones we’ve heard howling off in the distance for hours, will be home or in their offices working, like Sebastian will be. I picture him, sitting behind his desk in a suit, looking as handsome as ever, maybe nervously tapping his pen as he wonders what happened to me. He’s probably running interference with his father, trying to convince him it’s not worth it to come after me, that there’s no reason to worry about any agreement he had with my parents since they’re dead.

Smells Like Home
Aria “Who are you?” The questions comes to me through the mind-link as Ruby and I determine whether to run from the wolf standing on the hill next to the ruins of my previous home or if we can trust this person. Ruby takes a hesitant step forward, and as he steps further into the light of the moon, I see his face.“Tomas?” I ask, shocked to see my father’s best friend standing before me.His furry face softens as he recognizes my voice, and then, when he can see Ruby’s red fur, he is a wolf with a jovial grin on his face. He runs to me. “Ruby--Aria! It’s you!”“It’s us,” I say back to him as Ruby puts all of her remaining stre

Principle
Sebastian Eventually, my escorts drop off, one by one, leaving me to return to their homes or whatever else they have to worry about. I am clearly not a threat, and as I cross into other pack lands, I likely fall out of their minds. With any luck, they will alert the other packs ahead of me that I seem to be just crossing through, and as I make my way closer to Aria, I will be unharassed.Flint runs as far as he can before he finally finds a place to settle, mid-afternoon of our second day. He is exhausted, and other than a few sips of water from fresh streams we’ve crossed and a rabbit that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, we haven’t had water or food.I don’t care, though. I am more focused on finding Aria than anything else.

Reunion
Aria Maria’s words stick me throughout the meal and as I try to sleep in a bed in the large pack house, surrounded by people I haven’t seen in months. I’ve learned that they’ve been surviving here on whatever they can find in the forest and the few supplies they were able to salvage from the village. It’s hard for me to think that anyone has had a tougher time than I did myself since our home was attacked, but it seems like I’ve been mistaken.Sleep isn’t coming, despite how exhausted I am. I lay awake, staring at the ceiling, listening to others in the room snore and shift around on the narrow beds. I didn’t ask where the supplies to build this place came from or the furnishings, but I imagine some of my packmates have taken jobs in one of the nearby human cities and are sending back money.
