Chapter 37: No One To Trust

Edmond was shocked by my sudden words. He finally stopped what he was doing and looked at me unhappily. "Why are you suddenly throwing a tantrum? It is not my fault that there is no clue. Why are you so angry at me?"

I took a deep breath and suppressed my anger. I looked straight into his eyes. "Alright, I won't get angry. But tell me, are you hiding something from me?"

"What can I hide from you? Alright, there's nothing here. Let's go back first." He avoided my gaze and casually changed the topic. He reached out to pull me away.

I shook off his hand angrily. The feeling of being deceived by the person I trusted the most was almost making me lose my mind. My father was like this, and now Edmond was like this too.

Beneath my anger was extreme fear. I took two steps back. I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails were almost in my flesh, but I didn't let go. I tried to keep calm through the pain in my palms.
