I grunted, struggling to get under the duvet. My insomnia had been killing me, both metaphorically and literally. I dragged myself under the covers, going to the washroom to get into my bath Jasmine had already drawn for me. There were not many things that could make one as relaxed as a warm bath soaking up the tiredness away. I got out of my bath, after what seemed like forever, freshened up, got back into my room to allow my handmaiden to dry and dress me. Once my gown was tied up nice and tight, I sat down back to my vanity to allow my hair and makeup to be done.
“Your Majesty, The Sorceress has arrived with our guest.” I took a deep breath, trying to wrap my head around what we were about to do.
“How is she?” I asked, trying to do my best to hide my concerns.
“Unconscious,” replied The Sorceress as she walked through the gates of the common room. “I wouldadvise you to wait until she wakes up, Your Majesty.” I had felt a surprising sense of reliefI opened my eyes in a foreign setting. The room I woke up in, looked nothing like I had seen ever before; high ceilings, drapes all across, it was a lot fancier than I could’ve ever dreamed of. The one thing was I really didn’t know how I ended up there. The last thing I remembered was walking the old lady back to her home, the rest is gone. “She is awake, my lady. You can tell Your Majesty,” the old lady said in a chirping voice. It felt good to see a familiar face. “Where did you bring me to?” I asked, still trying to make sense of my surroundings. “A place that lives in a different lifetime,” the old lady laughed. I failed to see what she found so amusing. “I don’t remember coming here,” I tried so hard remembering how and when we arrived. “How did we come here? When did we come here?” Just as I hoped to get an answer to fall out of the old lady’s mouth as the doors flung open. In rushes one of the most beautiful women I had ever la
I was out of my mind, I didn't know what to do, I didn't know where to go, I didn't know who to trust. As much as I wanted to seem like I was level-headed and try to keep my poker face as much as I could, it was to no avail. I was scared and I was confused. The old lady must have been able to read my concern from my face as she continued, “The smartest thing for you would be to just surrender yourself. Then you can enjoy yourself. This is not as bad as you think. The Princess will reward you handsomely if and when you assist her.” My sniffles softened with her reassuring words. “Give it a bit more time, maybe a week or so. You will understand me better then.” I stood back up and opened my door to collect the uniform that had been sent to me. There were many things I had anticipated in my life but becoming a handmaiden was surely not one of them. I was already late because of my overemotional chat with the old lady so I had barely any time left to take a bath, because
“Wait, is she really a princess?” The lady confirmed. I didn’t know why it shocked me as much as it did, if I’m being completely honest, there were still monarchies all around the world. But everything felt a bit off here than all the others that I had seen or heard about. In here, everything was a bit more 16th century, a bit more like the Tudors. “The Princess only trusts her immediate servants with her jewelry.” That made me surprisingly proud. “It is actually an honor, even though it does not feel like one at times.” “Thank you for saying that,” I snuck a glance at her, “I am so thankful for having you as my mentor here.” “Well, we will be spending an awfully lot of time together,” she bursted into laughter. “So, where are you from?” Lady Jasmine, asked. “Louisiana,” replied, without turning back to her. I just wanted to be done with the dusting job. “Never heard of that land. Who is the King?”“Pardon?” Just when I thought my day had gained so
“Your majesty, aas you know I am new in this world and to be fair, this world seems to have many peculiar problems compared to where I’m from. But I would gladly help you if I could help you in any way, shape or form.” Voila! “If I can’t do anything, then I will just listen to you talk for hours, until you feel like you are heard.” “Thank you for your kind offer,” I nodded my head. I did not know how to start or where to start from for that matter but regardless, I had found myself talking after a seemingly long pause. “So I am to be bethwored to the beastly King of a far away country.” Her eyes widened. “No offense, Your Majesty, but judging by the tone of your voice, you don't seem too excited about your marriage prospects.” “It is an arrangement that had been done without my knowledge, kind of like a set up.” “So an arranged marriage?” Her shock changed from fascination to pity. “Why though? I’m sorry, Your Majesty but you are sm
NIA It had been almost a week since I ended up here, I would still like to think that I was abducted but more so going with the flow so that they would feel sorry for me and send me back home. I had so many questions running through my mind, like where I was or why there was no service here but I had decided to seek an answer for all of my problems one by one as apparently, I had nothing but time on my hands when I wasn’t on duty. On the fifth day that I was here, something out of my imagination had happened. It was funny for me to think that it was so unimaginable when I had accidentally gone off the grid with an old lady, only to become one of the handmaidens of the princess of a society that freakishly resembles a cult to be completely hıonest. And still, that day sparked something irrevocable in my life. Up until that day, I had never thought the miracle Princess Viviana would summon me to just have a chat. Like what is even life here?
The knowledge of the old lady who had brought me here being a witch didn’t even phase me anymore. “The old lady that brought you is actually a witch,” Lady Jasmine once said so casually as if that was the most common knowledge in the world. Maybe it was the most common knowledge in this world. “That is most likely how she brought you here. I do fail to see her reasoning to do so, however.” To be fair, none of us understood why the old lady was doing what she was doing at all times, but the possibility of being teleported into a land where the magic existed excited me. That was not the case at first, however. Lady Jasmine had kept the Princess’ wedding gown in her room, as the princess felt triggered whenever she saw the dress hanging in hers. As I got ready, we summoned the old lady so that she could work on the spell she was supposed to cast on me. Eventually, Lady Jasmine had left us alone for her to enchant me. "So," I started to diffuse the silence, "The
NIA The Holy Priest came in bright purple as he stood in front of us. He made a speech about how Holy viewed marriages and what they had demanded of the married couples. I did not hear about the Holy often during my time in Princess Viviana’s palace. They were mentioned in places where God would be mentioned back home so I recognized it as some sort of an all-mighty religious figure that people had worshipped. Seeing the officiant pray to him as well, only strengthened my argument. The fire cackles. I sit with my back against a tree, eyes on the flickering flames. After what had seemed like a mass, the officiant, the Holy Priest, had guided us through the vows. I knew I had to hide myself not to raise any suspicion but I was sure that they would recognize that I was not Princess Viviana once they had heard my voice. The vows were nothing out of the ordinary; to love, to cherish and to respect one another. I tried my very best to mimic the mira
Princess Vivian At the same time that I was terrified to turn my back and reveal the identity of the owner of the hand, I knew I had to walk into the cave if I wanted to make it to the ceremony in time. I made an attempt to shrug the hand on my shoulder off of me and enter the cave, but this time the hand caught me by the wrist and spun me around so that I was looking at them. "Your Majesty, you should not enter that building." Lady Jasmine is a female nymph. Take a moment to reflect on what we'd gone through to save you from the Lycan Beast. Instead of protecting a foreign girl who had been brought here by that evil wench, The Sorceress, your first and foremost concern should be saving yourself." She made some valid arguments, but I would be unable to live with myself if I did not do all in my power to prevent it. "I'm sorry for having to do this. Regardless of whether or whether the monster king accepts my offer, you should know that I am q
