My eyes slowly opened as the light pierced through, revealing a maid struggling with the automatic windows. The window had to be fully open before it could close again.

“I am sorry, ma’am. I didn’t mean to wake you up,” the young maid apologized.

I recognized her as the one who occasionally cleaned Charles’ room. I forced a smile, waving aside her apology.

“Where is Charles—I mean your boss?” I quickly corrected myself.

The maid hesitated, and in that split second, fear of the unknown overwhelmed me.

“Mr. Charles is in the study, ma’am. He said he had some important matters to attend to,” the maid responded.

“Thank you,” I replied, nodding appreciatively. As the maid scurried away, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stretched, feeling the stiffness from the night of passion with Charles.
