Casey felt Ava stiffen in her arms, and he immediately let her go and they both backed away from the door. It could have just been someone that was cleaning, but the footsteps were a bit too fast he didn’t hear the sound of a cleaning cart with them. It could have also been someone working late that is on this floor or passing through, but Casey still wanted to be sure and so he distanced himself from Ava.

The footsteps got louder and louder until they were right outside the room. And then they stopped. Casey could see the shadow of the shoes from under the door. The person stood still for a couple of seconds before putting their hand on the door handle and twisting.
