I sat beside Bash, staring at an old photo Ahmet sent to my phone. It was taken at someone's wedding. His mother was so young, hardly eighteen or seventeen and she had him in her arms. Elio was behind her, laughing with a whiskey in his hand. Behind him was Bash's father. The photo was not clear. So there's no chance he is his father. But Ahmet sent the details of the flight tickets Mr. Merrick purchased that day.

"This can be a coincidence," I murmured, pressing a kiss on his shoulder. "Why are you even trying to look into your mother's past?"

"I need to know what happened to her before Xavier."
