Once the door was slammed shut, I knew Justin was gone, at least for today. I sighed as I say down on the couch.

“ Are the kids asleep?” I asked without turning to face James who had joined me on the couch.

“ Yes, even though it hard to convince Amelia to go to bed. She was really excited to meet her dad,” James said bitterly. I knew he was hurt by the news.

“ Thanks for helping me out,” I looked at him and managed to give him a smile.

“ You shouldn't be thanking me, it's my duty,” he replied shyly as he scratched the back of his head.

We sat quietly, the air hanging with curiosity. I knew he had lots of questions to ask me and I also wanted to know how he felt but I still didn't feel that I was ready to talk about Justin.

“ Do you want tea?” he broke the silence.

“ I would have said coffee but...,”

“ You shouldn't take coffee before heading to bed, that's a really bad habit you know,” he was quick to correc
