Chapter 8

George had decided to go on a trip to visit one of his children, unable to bear the absence of his wife. This left Johanne completely alone. He had become her support, and his absence was keenly felt.

The days passed, and Johanne knocked on every door she could to find a job, but no one would accept her with her baby. Resigned to the idea that she wouldn't find anything, she decided to do what a determined woman would do.

"Let's see, little one, we have to go to work. Do you know what your grandmother's dream was? She wanted to have a big flower shop. Well, we're going to fulfill that dream," Johanne told her son. Angel only smiled; he had no idea what his mother was talking about. However, she bundled him up against the cold. She had bought a small cart and a bunch of simple flowers to sell, investing her last bit of capital with the hope of making enough money to eat.
