Chapter 19

Fay smiled at the man and waved. Jake looked at the boy, his face was burning red. He cursed and he walked out of the garden, angrily. Fay watched the boy leave and he could feel his heart squeeze. He wondered why the boy was so angry. They were friends, brothers. Brothers are supposed to be happy for each other.

When he retired to bed that night, he could not sleep. He had recently turned seventeen and he had no one to sing a birthday song to him, no one gave him gifts, and no one even noticed. His thoughts raced back home. He thought about his parents, most especially his mother. He wondered how they are faring, he wondered if his father had made peace in his heart with him.

He wondered if the child his mother was carrying would be a girl or a boy. He thought about the stall in the market, he thought about the boys he used to hang out with, he thought about his life back in the human territory and he missed it. He missed his parents, he missed his mother.
