CHAPTER 23: ARIANA’S LIFE

ROSALINE’S POV:

I wrapped my face, neck, and head with one of my midnight black scarves as I made my way out the kitchen door.

I kept my eyes wide and alert as I looked in every direction before sprinting deep into the courtyard. I would occasionally hide behind trees when I caught sight of a guard coming.

I remember seeing a tree that was oddly close to the fence. I could use it to go over the fence and get out of here. It was almost impossible to see in the dark, but when I found the tree, I felt a sense of relief.

I made sure to search my surroundings before climbing the thick chunk of wood; luckily, it was just about the same height as the fence.

I said a silent prayer before jumping off the tree and landing at the very tip of the fence. My arms flailed in all directions as I tried to regain my balance.

When I did, I released a sigh of relief.

There was a small shrub directly beneath me, and I felt my heart pound widely against my chest. I shut my eyes and reminded myself why
