Chapter 9

  Three Years Later:

Cassie slammed the knife into the fish and sliced it into pieces before fixing the knife to the middle and placing it on the fire. It was her only meal for the day until maybe, the moon goddess sends another her way.

She had remained a rogue for three years now after Ethan and his mother sent her away. Beside her was a magazine, Rissa and Ethan were on the front covers: they hugged each other in the magazine showing love to themselves.

Cassie felt nothing but bitter hatred for them but she couldn't do anything. She could only pray to the moon goddess to help her survive as a rogue and maybe one day, find a mate if the moon goddess destined another for her.

However, she didn't forget that her wolf had shut herself out from her. Ever since she left Ethan’s presence, her wolf had shut herself out and never returned. Cassie had been the only one talking to herself for three years.

She had been so much alone except for the animals that crept around. Cassie was still smoking the fish when she heard loud steps hitting the floor heavily and loudly.

Cassie turned her head, she saw traces of running wolves and she instantly knew they were back.

Fuck! She groaned and picked her fish, she had to eat, she was hungry and only her strength could help her run the race since her wolf had shut herself out.

She ate the fish with its fins,  grills, dirt, and bones, she crushed it in her mouth and prepared herself to run. Ever since she became a rogue, these set of wolves had been chasing her and she didn't know why.

She picked her race and began to run through the tall, thick trees and branches. The thorns and thistles in the wild kept cutting her already bruised skin but she didn't mind. All she wanted was to escape the wolves coming after her in long gaits.

As she ran faster and faster, she began to hear loud agonizing cries coming from someone in the bush. Cassie wanted to wait and help whoever was crying loudly but if she did, she will be caught by the wolves chasing her and maybe killed or imprisoned.

She kept running and running in the direction the cries came from. She knew her conscience wouldn't let her go without seeing the reason for so many cries. Cassie ran as fast as her leg could carry her until she saw a woman at the side of a tall tree, crying and holding her leg.

Cassie stopped in front of her and sized the woman up. When she saw a snake around the leg of the pregnant woman, she smiled and went over. She took the snake by the head and brought it to her face. After years of living in the wild, Cassie had mastered the act of communicating with animals, even the wild ones.

The snake hissed and brought out its tongue at Cassie and Cassie did the same, showing that she was communicating with it. The woman who watched them couldn't help but be astonished. How can a woman not be scared of a snake? Rattle one like that?

Then, Cassie placed the snake on the floor and it went on its way. She looked at the woman and smiled at her.

“Can we run now? Some people are chasing me and I don't want them to catch up with me,” Cassie said.

The woman smiled and shook her head.

“I can't run, I'm pregnant and running is not my favorite thing to do at this stage. Who..-” before she finished her statement, the wolves who were chasing Cassie had reached their front.

The wolves were three in numbers, all white in colors with black shades, they tied a bandanna around their necks indicating they are from the Rainbow pack.

Cassie's heart leaped higher, she turned to them quickly and swung her arm towards them, showing she was ready to fight even if she was scared as hell.

“What do you want?” asked the pregnant woman.

“Wolf!!” the one in the middle of the wolves howled then changed to human form. He took the bandanna from his neck and covered his manhood. None of the ladies seemed to be shy to see a man’s anatomy.

“We are here for that she-wolf, she is a rogue and our Alpha has ordered for her to be brought back to the palace,” answered the wolf and he bowed.

Cassie was surprised that he bowed. For him to have bowed to the woman, means she is not an ordinary she-wolf.

  “Why?” asked the pregnant woman.

“Because she has been stealing food from our farm and stealing fishes from our pond,” answered the man.

“Hm, you are from the rainbow pack, right? My husband owns seventy percent of all your assets. This lady with me is my savior, you can't kill my savior because I owe her my life so go now and tell your Alpha what I have just said,” Luna Emily said.

He nodded his head and changed into a wolf again after tying the bandana around his neck. With this, he left with the other wolves.

Cassie heaved a sigh of relief and turned to the woman.

“Thank you for saving me, I'll go now,” she said and turned to leave.

“I can't save you every time you know, especially when you are not under my reach...” she paused and looked at Cassie.

“You are just what I need, please follow me back to my husband’s house, I will give you food and shelter and some clothes.” She sized Cassie’s clothes, it was tattered and dirty. It was very obvious she had been wearing the clothes for a long time because it was worn out and dirty.

“Food?” Cassie’s face lit up. She smiled and followed the Luna immediately. Although the Luna had said something that baffled her, she didn't think about it long.

“You’re just what I need.” -Luna Emily.

  Why?

  How?

  For what?
