WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Nightfall took almost forever to arrive. We finally left the house together, with my two sons in my arms. My broken wrist did not hurt so terribly, thanks to Frank, but I was still not able to use it, yet.

We all got into his car and he began the journey to the docks. He avoided the major roads and kept driving through small streets to avoid being caught by the police.

I breastfed my children who began to cry once again, one after the other. It was a real chore because I could only make use of one hand.

Seeing this, Frank said, "They are hungry, and if you hadn't been too stubborn, they would have been asleep by now. What's the use of breastfeeding them when you have eaten nothing?"

I ignored his words. It was true that I was hungry but I did not regret my decision to trust only myself. My sons quieted down real soon and I heaved a sigh of relief.

Our journey continued smoothly and quietly as we kept driving through the streets until we finally arrived at our destination.
