Ariel wiped at her face as she walked back to the kitchen, holding the plate of food in her hand. She was getting tired of it - always wiping her eyes. Her throat still burned and her chest was not doing much better. It felt like someone had set her lungs on fire and she wheezed, hitting her chest while she walked. The familiar smell of smoke and roasted lamb attacked her nostrils as she entered the kitchen and she reeled the sneeze that threatened to escape her back in. The maids snickered as she entered, not bothering to lower their tone whilst they gossiped about her - not that she expected them to. "Serves her damn well right." Ariel glued her eyes to her socked feet and kept them there, trying and failing to lock them out. They would always have things to say about her, she'd realized. None of those things would ever be good. During her first days in the kitchen, she had fought them for their insults tossed at her parents. She had gotten into brawls where teeth and claws fla
Ariel swallowed, hard. Damien inched towards her and she backed away until she hit the door. He didn't stop walking and her heart thrashed against her rib cage with every step he took in her direction. She tried not to notice the rippling of muscles as he moved, or how low his towel was from his waist. She tried keeping her eyes on his face, and she failed terribly. Damien halted when they were close enough to share breaths and his nostrils flared when he smelled her. He let out a low sound - a growl, and his warm breath tickled the skin on her neck. Ariel shuddered and she felt her wolf stir again. Not good. "You called for me. What did you need?" She said, surprised at the steadiness of her voice, and made to move away from the door, away from him. Going to his room had been a mistake. The proximity wasn't healthy for both of them. Mated wolves who had neither accepted nor denied the bond, were ticking time bombs, waiting to explode. Ariel feared she would explode if she didn't
Alpha Damien looked at the girl standing in front of him. Granted she was a young woman who he was older than by five years, but irregardless of that, she was still like a girl to him. He glared at her and she inched back slowly, as if his glare was pushing her back. She stood with her head bowed down, cowering in fear like a homeless dog. Damien was lost in his thoughts, but his mind was still on the wimp in front of him t. Why her? he asked himself. He clenched his hands into fists, as the emotions swirled around him, threatening to swallow him whole. He shook his head to blink the thoughts - which were swirling through his mind at an alarming rate - away as his eyes focused on the person who was still standing in front of him. He took in her features. He looked at her obsidian black hair which was still shining, despite it being in poor condition. She was of average eyes and her posture was starting to become stopped because of the way she always bent her head."Who is there?" he b
Alex sashayed through the hallways, occasionally peering through the corners where he thought she might be. It was unusual that the woman was not in the kitchen scrubbing the plates or in the garden cussing at Damien's flowers and fruits, as well as the man himself. He had looked in the store as well, one of her many getaway spots, but she wasn't stealing a nap in there like she usually would. It was unusual that Ariel would be indoors, given the time of the day but it was the only other choice left. He had wanted to wave at her in the kitchen, just to make sure she was well and alright, but when he did not find her there or at the other spots, he actually did start to get worried. "Alex ?" Alex halted and turned slightly. His friend's eyes narrowed as they observed him and the direction in which he was headed. "Where are you headed?" Alex's brows rose in bitter amusement. "Can I not have a walk in our pack house anymore, Damien?" Damien's blonde brows knitted together as his fro
Pacing around his office, he held on to his head like it would fall off if he left it. He poured himself a glass of water, hoping it would help calm his nerves, but it didn’t seem to be helping. He inhaled deeply before going to the window. He was deep in thought and it was scaring him.He folded his arms as he looked out of the window. He tried thinking of a way to solve the problem he had at hand, but no idea seemed to be forthcoming. He had to think of a good idea, he was the alpha of the pack and it was his duty hence, to take care of the pack especially in times like this.He went and sat in his seat before looking at his laptop and as he looked at his laptop, he shook his head in disappointment.. Perhaps, looking at it would give him ideas on how to solve the problem? He thought to himself. He was wrong however, as looking at the laptop only caused him more pain. He started having doubts about himself, was he not a leader good enough for his people?“Think Damien, think. How can
The laughter and chuckles that emanated from the maids, infuriated Ariel, as she glared at them without them realizing what she did. She cleaned the sweat that trickled down her face, as she heaved out an exasperated sigh, staring daggers at the maids, who didn't even notice her glares. They were all relaxed, gossiping and playing games, while all the responsibilities and work concerning the wedding were dumped on her head. She sauntered to the kitchen, carrying a carton filled with the ceramic plates Damien intended to use at the wedding. She couldn't help, but cuss out on the head maid and most especially, Damien who gave her the list for the wedding. Tears brimmed in her eyes and the only thing she wanted to do was to squeeze the list and throw it into the trash can.She brought out the ceramic plate and started to arrange them in the cupboard kept for the wedding materials. The head maid came into the kitchen in a bid to taunt her and make fun of her. Ariel quickly ducked her head,
The next day Ariel woke up knowing that she would have to take care of the wedding decor all on her own as the only person willing to help her had been summoned for a meeting by Damien. A part of her thought that Damien had asked Alex to represent him in the meeting just so she would have to do it all on her own. He loved to see her suffer and she would not be surprised if he truly did that. She sighed at the thought of that but thought also that she was fine anyway, she had always been on her own all her life. She’d had to do things all on her own too, this was not the first and it certainly won’t be the last regardless whether Damien wished it or not. She was ready to accept her fate and move on.She began to second guess her decision to accept her fate of suffering when she tried setting up the ladders for the décor. The work was harder than she thought and she began to think that maybe she could have used Alex or anyone's help after all. She thought of calling him as her only frien
Elle practically jumped out of the car after the door sprung open and literally bounced into Damien’s home. She was beaming with uncontrollable joy and even beamed bright smiles at people she would usually frown upon, including the slaves.Everyone around her at the time were beyond surprised at her sudden change in mood and whispered amongst themselves, while wondering exactly what it was that must’ve caused the lift in her mood. She bounced up the flight of airy steps smiling, waving happily as the only thing she could quite think about was Damien, and her wedding with him that would take place in only a matter of days. She had prepared everything ranging from the cakes, reception, clothes, in fact everything that had to do with weddings, you just name it.Her wedding dress was top notch. A small smile graced her lips when she remembered the dresses she had bought, paired up with the expensive shoes she had taken with it.She couldn’t help but smile when images of her Wedding ceremon
