Silver:

The new building I was put in was beautiful, but not as beautiful or as big as the palace had been. It had just as many rooms, although smaller and less fancy than those of the palace. We were grateful to even have a substitute space in the first place, so I had nothing to complain about.

I didn’t care about the new place just as much as I didn’t care about the old palace which was now a desolate heap of trash. I had been so close to home and coming back here, although my life was now saved did not feel good.

I stood by the window and watched the people from up there. They all seemed to be discussing happily, sharing the news that their King had returned to them yet again.

I wished I could have been one of them. Home and happy to see my King. Unlike them, I was trapped in a land that wasn’t mine, in a place where I couldn’t fully relax no matter how much I wanted to.

I felt forlorn and sad, but not ungrateful. If not for my mate, I would have been slit open and left in an
