Caught

My body felt very heavy as if it was crushed by a boulder. My consciousness seemed to be pulled back so as not to reach the surface. My sense of hearing could pick up the sounds around me, but my nerves were still unable to respond.

The light slowly entered as my heavy eyelids were generous enough to open. I blinked repeatedly before finally examining my surroundings. The gentle caress I felt on my hand made me turn my head to look at the perpetrator.

"Zaire..." I called in a hoarse voice. My throat hurt so much that my hand reached out to hold it.

"Right, I'm here, with Zach." Zaire smiled very broadly, but his eyes were watering.

"Don't get me wrong. These are happy tears. I'm relieved and happy to see you finally awake." Zaire chuckled softly as he wiped his eyes.
